"We finished up everything today in terms of preparation," said head coach Bobby Bowden. "We had a pretty good week of practice and now we've got to go out and do it on Saturday."
Starting tight tackle Ray Willis is listed as doubtful for the home opener after spraining his ankle in the Iowa State game. If he isn't able to play, Brett Williams would move from split tackle to tight tackle and Alex Barron would get the start at split tackle. Bowden announced that back-up cornerback Leroy Smith would not play Saturday. He is serving a one-game suspension for violation a training rule.
Florida State leads the all-time series with Virginia 9-1, which started when the Seminoles joined the ACC in 1992. The Cavaliers only victory came in 1995 (33-28) when Warrick Dunn, who will be inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame Friday night, was stopped inches from the goalline on the final play of the game. FSU's defense has held the Cavs under 10 points in each of the last two contests (three points in 2000, seven in 2001).
Saturday's game against Virginia is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium and will be televised regionally by ABC.
