Ganguzza 'excited' to become a Seminole

A.J. Ganguzza committed to Florida State Monday after being offered a scholarship.

Florida State secured a verbal commitment Monday when Boca Raton offensive lineman A.J. Ganguzza announced he will be a Seminole.

Ganguzza fits the mold of players that new offensive line coach Rick Trickett covets as his 6-foot-3 and 265-pound frame should fit nicely with the new system at FSU.

"I am excited that I am going to Florida State next year," Ganguzza told Renegade Report Monday. "It's a school that I have always loved."

Ganguzza was originally looked at by FSU recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach John Lilly during the former regime of offensive coaches but he didn't fit the mold of targeted players at the time.

With the addition of Trickett, that quickly changed. When Trickett was hired earlier this month, he visited Ganguzza soon thereafter.

He was scheduled to visit FSU offically last weekend but early last week he was notified by FSU recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach John Lilly that they weren't going to be able to offer him a scholarship due to a numbers crunch.

"I was tired of the process after they told me that," Ganguzza admitted, "so I cancelled my visit (to FSU) and committed to FIU."

All that changed Monday, however, as Lilly notified Ganguzza's father early in the day that FSU would in fact be able to extend A.J. a scholarship after all.

"They faxed down the letter officially saying I had an offer and that was it," Ganguzza said.

Ganguzza is familiar with Tallahassee as both of his sisters have attended FSU. It's also the school that he grew up watching and he has attended many games in the past.

He will take an official visit to Florida State this weekend.

"It's going to be cool going up there for the first time knowing that I will be a student there," Ganguzza said.
