First Coast High is loaded with talent for the Class of 2008. Linebackers Nigel Carr and Shaq Wilson both have several offers, as does wide receiver Avis Commack. Today's update focuses on running back Jermaine Thomas.
At 6-feet and 190 pounds, Thomas finished his junior season with just over 900 yards and 12 touchdowns.
"I have good vision," Thomas said. "Just knowing how to adjust to what the defense is doing (is what I do best). I am good at making plays when there's nothing there."
Thomas, who carries a 2.7 GPA and is awaiting test score results to come back, has eight scholarship offers.
"I have been offered by Florida State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Maryland, Illinois, Georgia Tech, South Florida, and Minnesota," he said. "I'd say my top five right now would be Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee -- and probably Minnesota."
The talented running back spoke about each of his top choices.
"I've always liked Florida State," he said. "They have some new coaches on offense and I think they're gonna have an exciting offense again. I think they're ready to do big things. South Carolina, I have two teammates going there and I like Coach Spurrier. Georgia Tech, the recruiter said I have good ability to catch the ball and they can build their offense around me. Tennessee's always been my favorite school but the situation's not looking too good for them right now. They have a lot of running backs. Minnesota, I like 'em but I don't know much about 'em."
