New Jersey star invited to FSU spring game

With offers from Connecticut and Clemson already in hand, Lynell Payne will hit the combine and camp trail this summer, starting with the Combine in Randolph, N.J., hoping to secure more offers to choose from in the future.

Lynell Payne is one of the more dangerous players in New Jersey with the ball in his hands and the Marlton native has already picked up two offers from Clemson and Connecticut due to that athleticism. While he hasn't picked up any offers since we last spoke to him, this 6-foot-3, 205-pound wide receiver has plenty of interested parties.

"I actually got my first few letters from Florida State today," Payne stated. "They're a good school with a good football program in a good conference and you've got to love the weather down there too. I watch them play once in a while and caught their game against Miami this past season. They invited me to their spring game."

"Rutgers has been sending me a bunch of mail, all handwritten from Coach (Joe) Susan, but hasn't offered me yet," Payne said. "I don't know why they haven't offered me, I'm waiting, that's for sure. They invited me to their spring game, so I'm thinking I'll make that trip."

"Connecticut invited me up for their spring game which I'm thinking about attending and I have also been hearing a lot from Clemson, Kansas State and Tennessee lately."

Payne has a favorite at this point, however it is not for public consumption just yet, and has somewhat of a time frame for when he'd like to have a decision made by.

"I'm thinking I may commit after that crazy month I'll be having in May," Payne explained. "If not May then I'd definitely like to have it done by the beginning of the school year, but right now I'm shooting for May."

As a junior, Payne caught 13 passes for 355 yards and five touchdowns and returned three kickoffs for scores. He averaged over 27 yards per catch and scored 30-percent of the time he got the ball in his hands on offense on his way to All-County honors.
