Men's track wins ACC outdoor championship

Walter Dix takes home two gold medals in the 4x100 meter relay and the 200 meters.

The Florida State Mens Track and Field Team claimed their fourth consecutive ACC outdoor title and fifth in the last six years. With a final score of 166.50 points, the team closed out the meet with a healthy 48.5 point margin of victory. The Womens team claimed third place with 101 points, only 12 points out of a runner-up finish.

A few highlights of the day include the men's 4x100 meter relay team of Greg Bolden, Michael Ray Garvin, Walter Dix, and Charles Clark shattering the ACC and FSU records in 38.78, also the fastest time in the nation.

Senior Tom Lancashire also defended his 1,500 meter title and finished 3:44.08, just under his ACC record of 3:42.15 which he set at Wake Forest last season. Dix set a new meet record in the 200 Meter Dash with a fast time of 20.19 to claim the gold medal.

Junior Ricardo Chambers won the 400 meter dash with a time of 46.00 seconds. Senior Matt Hurley closed the book on his ACC career by winning the pole vault competition with a hight of 5.25 meters.

For the women, senior Sarah Reed bettered her finish at last year's meet and placed second in the shot put with a personal best 53' throw.

Senior Alyce Williams took home the gold in the triple jump with her season-best leap of 43'0.50", setting a new Kehoe Track record. Freshman Tiara Swanagan also finished strong in third with her distance of 41'7.75", a collegiate best for the Orange Park, Florida native.

The 4x400 Meter relay team of Keyla Smith, Dana Massiah, Kandia Batchelor and Alycia Williams claimed gold in the final event of the championships. The team crossed the line in a time of 3:32.11 to set a new meet record.
