Prospect Q&A: EJ Manuel talks recruiting, FSU

Virginia Beach Bayside High standout is one of the top quarterbacks on the east coast and he shares the latest with NoleDigest.com.

NoleDigest.com: You recently got an offer from FSU. How did that feel?

E.J. Manuel: Man, it was great. I got my offer letter Monday. I didnt believe it at first. I mean, I know they werent lying, but to actually have that piece of paper ... it's exciting. My parents were excited, too. It's just a very flattering thing.

ND: What schools have offered you?

Manuel: I have 23 offeres from schools like LSU, FSU, Miami, Alabama, Rutgers, Tennessee, UNC and a host of other schools.

ND: Do any schools stick out?

Manuel: I am just laying low right now. I am trying to stay level headed, you know. This is an important process. I am going to be at this place for 4-5 years, and I dont want to be unhappy. I have a great support system with my parents and my coaches. I have trust in God.

ND: What intresetes you about FSU?

Manuel: Tradition. Seeing that Seminole come out with the spear before the game, it gets your blood flowing. What young player wouldn't want to be a part of that. Coach (Bobby) Bowden is there. He is a legend and a Hall of Famer. Jimbo Fisher just got there. Plus, my friend Damon McDaniel is there. Warm weather is a preference for me. I know I can't always get away from the cold, but I prefer warmer weather. Also, Vince Williams, Nigel Bradham, Nigel Carr, C.J. Holton, Nick Moody ... man they are all calling me asking me what am I going to do. Not pressuring me, just talking to me as friends. I like that.

ND: What do you bring to the table as a player?

Manuel: I am a gamebreaker. I'd rather stay in the pocket and throw, not because I am lazy, but because I can make the throws. My feet, though, they set me apart. They are a blessing. I like to run. I am not going to let anyone punk me on the field, or in life. I am a smart kid, and I learn pretty quickly. I also can make the quick decisons, as well as all of the throws. Just the versatility I bring makes me stand out.

ND: What coaches from FSU are recruiting you?

Manuel: Coach Fisher and Coach (John) Lilly.

ND: When are you going to make a decision?

Manuel: Well, I gotta check when I can make visits. But I am going to be driving down in the spring or summer to check out FSU. I want to decide before my season starts. If I feel a school is right, I will choose ... even if I haven't visited. You know, making these trips are expensive. I want to check out as many as I can. If I make just one official, so be it.

ND: What are your measurables right now?

Manuel: I am 6'5", 208 lbs with a 4.6-forty. Last year I passed for 1,973 yards and 17 TDs.

ND: Finally, have you taken any tests?

Manuel: Yeah, I took the SAT and got a 1050 and my GPA is a 2.975.
