Prospect Q&A: A.J. Jenkins talks about FSU

Jacksonville Tony Parker High standout A.J. Jenkins is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the entire state of Florida. The 6-foot-1 and 170-pounder is a proven playmaker and Florida State coaches would love nothing more than to have the four-star player as part of the 2008 class. So, where do the Seminoles stand in his recruitment?

NoleDigest.com: When did you start playing football?

A.J. Jenkins: Man, that's a long time ago. When I was seven I was playing baseball. I came home and decided I wanted to try something else. I have been playing football since.

ND: What are some of the things you are looking for in a school?

AJ: Playing time. Also, if I get hurt, I have to be able to go to that school just as a student.

ND: How many offers are you at right now?

AJ: I have 15. They are from the big three and some out of state schools.
ND: What kind of stats did you put up in your junior year?

AJ: I had 38 catches for 500 yards and eight TDs. I hurt my collarbone and missed some time. This year I am going to play some corner and some special teams, mostly as a return man.

ND: Can you speak on any of the schools you are considering, mainly any positives or negatives that stick out?

AJ: No, I can't. I am wide open right now. I don't even have a top five. I am not really involved in my recruiting right now. Right now I cam just getting better for my team.

ND: Do you have any interest right now in FSU? If so, what sticks out about them?

AJ: I defintely have interest. Man ... what interests me? That is a good question that I really haven't thought about. I know it is in-state ... I really don't know.

ND: What coaches are recruiting you?

AJ: Coach (Lawrence) Dawsey came by the school. We just talked about the program and the school and what they can offer.

ND: Can you discuss some of the things that make you stand out as a reciever? How about some of the things you need to work on?

AJ: I would have to say route running. I am fast, but I can get seperation in my routes. I have great speed and good hands. I need to work on my blocking for sure. I always need to get better at that.

ND: Do you intend on going to any camps this summer?

AJ: No. I might take some unofficial visits though.

ND: Do you have a decision time frame?

AJ: No. I am going to take my time and take all five of my visits to make sure I make the right decision.

ND: Have you taken any tests?

AJ: Yeah, I have taken the ACT and SAT. I do not have the scores back yet. As for my GPA, I have a 3.1 right now.
