Four-star quarterback likes Florida State

Star Jackson, a four-star quarterback from Lake Worth, (Fla.), is one of the top gunslingers in the nation. Jackson has received several scholarship offers and has been taking unofficial visits. The elite prospect updates his recruitment with

"I have about 18 offers right now," Star Jackson said. "I really don't have any main favorites, but some of the schools I like are Alabama, West Virginia, USF, UCF, Florida and Florida State."

"I have not been able to see all the schools, but I plan to take some visits pretty soon. This summer I have been to USF and UCF. I went to Auburn in the spring, and that was pretty cool. I really want to get to Alabama and West Virginia."

"The visit to USF went great. They showed me the campus, and I saw some of the players after work-outs. I talked to their strength and conditioning coach and their head coach [Jim Leavitt]. It was pretty cool. I liked it."

"I like the fact they are in a BCS conference. They have a chance to fight for a national championship or bowl game each year. They are getting better each year. They have a picture on the wall of a trailer. It used to be the coaching office about eight years ago. Now they have huge football facilities. They have gone from nothing to something great."

"The visit to UCF was basically the same thing. I am closer to their coaches. I like their system. We went through the offense, and I like the schemes they run."

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound quarterback passed for over 1,900 yards with 19 touchdowns and rushed for over 750 yards during his junior season. He was named All-County for his performance.

When asked strengths Jackson said, "I feel like my strengths are being able to read coverage. I can make decisions on the run. Everyone sees me as an athlete, but I see myself as a quarterback who can sit back in the pocket and toss the ball."

"I am really trying to improve on reading different defenses. You are going to see different defenses each week. I am doing a lot of film work--I am trying to break down myself. I want to be a general good leader on the field as well."

Jackson mentioned several other schools of interest and discussed what has caught his attention of each program.

Alabama: "I just like Major Applewhite. He was with Vince Young at Texas. He and I have the same style. It's good to know he has worked with someone like Vince. I know he wasn't with him all four years, but he was there for a while. He is one of the best quarterback coaches in the nation, and it would be great to work with him. Alabama has Nick Saban and the prestige of the program. Alabama is high on my list."

West Virginia: "I like their explosive offense. I like the situation they have at quarterback if I go there. It's a good school. Our quarterback coach used to play at West Virginia."

Florida: "I have been talking to coach Doc [John Holliday] a little. They have not offered, but I feel like when I go to their Friday Night Lights camp they will offer."

Florida State: "It's in Florida, and they run the spread offense. Coach Bobby Bowden speaks for itself."

Jackson will take his time in the decision-making process, and he explains a few factors that will influence his decision.

"The people are the main factor. The coaches and who is coaching what. I want to know what they have done in the past and if they have sent players anywhere. A lot of the schools I am considering offer that," he said.

"I really don't know when I will make my decision. I have no time-table right now. I will probably make my decision after the season."
