2009 Standout Cody Ledford Q & A

One of the top 2009 standouts is Nike Camp All-American Cody Ledford, a 6' 200 lbs combo Linebacker/Safety prospect from North Florida Christian. NoleDigest had a chance to catch up with Cody to discuss Florida State, other colleges recruiting him, and his upcoming football season.

How was the Seminole Showtime?

CL: It was great. There were a lot of great athletes there. Seeing Jerry Rice was awesome, as well as the other NFL players and coaches. I worked with Ernie Sims and Chuck Amato's group. I worked with the linebackers primarily.

What position is FSU talking to you about?

CL: I am being recruited as an Outside Linebacker or Rover. It really doesn't matter to me which position I play. I love to hit, but I feel I can go up and catch the ball well as a Safety.

How often do you hear from FSU?

CL: I hear from them some. They know I am close and that they do not have to go far to get me.

What about FSU stands out right now? What other schools are you considering?

CL: FSU is way out in front. For as long as I can remember I have been a Nole. It is my dream school, but I am open to seeing other schools and what they have to offer. I like Georgia because of Mark Richt. He is a Christian and a great coach, and (these) are the reasons why I would consider playing there. LSU, Alabama and Auburn are other schools that I have always liked. If I had to put it in order, it would go FSU, Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Auburn. I do plan on taking some visits this year when I get the chance. I don't want to be in the dark with these schools.

What coaches do you hear from at FSU?

CL: I hear from them all, really. I got a chance to really speak to them at the Showtime. I also met some at the Junior Day they had.

Do you have any verbal offers yet?

CL: No, not yet. I do receive a lot of mail. I hear from the schools I mentioned before, as well as Florida. Those are the major ones for me. I hear from some others too.

What does being a Nike All-American mean?

CL: It is the top 100 kids from all over the country for my class. Some of them are from the (Nike) camps and all. I went to a camp earlier this year. I feel it is a great honor.

You also play running back, correct?

CL: I am never coming off of the field this year. I am starting at Inside Linebacker and Fullback this year. When our tailback gets tired I will be filling in there. I also play all of the Special Teams. I don't get a break, but I like it that way.

As a young player, what do you feel makes you a standout, and what are the aspects you need to work on?

CL: I think my speed is good. I do a good job in shedding blocks and getting to the ball. I think I make a lot of plays. I do need to continue to work on my strength. I have gotten better this year in the weight room, but I can always improve. Also, just the mental aspects of the game. I can't let things bother me so much.

What are your goals for this upcoming year?

CL: I want to be All-State and All-Big Bend. Our teams should win States this year. There is no reason why we shouldn't. Like I stated earlier, I just want to get out there and see some of these colleges too.
