Stevens is the classic athlete that is tall, rangy and fast. He has the ability to play on both sides of the ball, and there's been talk of him maybe playing some offense at FSU. He says, "This season went pretty well. The regular season was great as we went 10-0, but we lost in the first round of the playoffs. That was a downer for us. I played both ways this year at defensive end and tight end because we don't have a big team. It was alright playing both ways because I had a lot of work to do to help my team. I always prefer playing defense, though. Overall I had a successful year."
The fact that he has been committed for several months hasn't deterred other schools from trying to sway his commitment. He explained, "The whole recruiting thing is fine. I am staying an FSU commit. Schools come by and call but I tell them thanks but no thanks. I really don't pay them too much attention. I hear from Coach Allen and Coach Trickett every week. I havn't gotten an in-home visit from them yet, but I believe Coach Allen is coming for a visit this week. As of right now they haven't really told me what I am going to be doing when I get there. As far as I know I'll be on defense when I get there."
Now that the football season has ended for Stevens, he has taken his atheletism to the hardwood. Like many players coming from the football field he has seen his weight drop a little bit. "I am at 6'6" right now, but since I've been playing ball I've lost a few pounds. Between that and working out, I am just trying to get stronger. I know the added weight will come," said Stevens.
While he has been up to Tallahassee for a few unofficial visits, Stevens is not sure when he plans on taking his official visit, saying, "With basketball going on I am not sure when I'll be heading up there. If I get some time off during the season I may try to get up there, but it looks like right now it'll be after my season."
With a firm commitment in place, Stevens is just biding his time until he gets to FSU. Between working out and finishing his school year strong, Stevens seems to have his plan worked out. He said, "I'm just trying to get bigger and stronger. I haven't talked to the coaches about what weight the want me at or anything like that. They did tell me that they want me to come in and put up some big minutes for them, so I have to make sure I'm ready for that. I've been quakified for a while so I just need to continue to do what I'm doing and finish up strong."
While Stevens doesn't say too much, he is a kid who is firmly committed and ready to get to FSU. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for your recruiting news on the 2008 class.
