Gehres has an excellent visit to FSU

Josh Gehres is a name that has popped up on Florida State's radar over the past few weeks. The unheralded prospect had a great senior season, amassing 29 catches for 1,110 yards and 13 touchdowns. This weekend he visited FSU, and NoleDigest caught up with him to see what his thoughts were and to discuss the offer he has on the table at this time.

Coming into the visit Josh had recently been extended an offer as a greyshirt, but that could possibly change if some things happen on Signing Day. Josh wanted to check out the program and what they had to offer, and he states that his questions were answered this weekend. He said, "The visit went excellent. I liked the players there, as they were very helpful with questions I had about the training programs, how the coaches teach and their philosophies and stuff like that."

Florida State has a long history of landing players from Lincoln High School, and that tradition has already continued with the commitment of Ja'Baris Little. The Noles could add two more in T.J. Bryant and Gehres, who grew up an FSU fan. But the fact that he's a lifelong fan doesn't mean the Noles have the inside track. "I'm going to go wherever I feel most comfortable. I grew up a fan of FSU and I've spent most of my time in Tallahassee. I want to check out these schools and have God lead me to the right place. I've been thinking about the offer from FSU and what it means. I just have to make sure it's the right place and right decision for me in the long run," stated Gehres.

Josh's host this weekend was quarterback Christian Ponder. According to Gehres the time they spent together was great and Ponder showed him a lot about what FSU has to offer he stated, "Christian Ponder was my host. He is a great guy. He showed me a good time. He introduced me to a lot of the players. Lawrence Timmons was in town and I got a chance to meet him. I was also cool hanging out with my former teammates from Lincoln."

Over the weekend Gehres met with many of the offensive coaches, as well as head coach Bobby Bowden. He said the meeting went well as they talked about how they plan to use him in the offense, as well as the future of the program. "I had meetings with Coach Bowden and Coach Dawsey yesterday (Saturday), and Coach Fisher before I left," stated Gehres. "Coach Dawsey was telling me where they see mw in the offense. He said he sees me as a guy who'll line up on the outside and make some plays. Coach Fisher was telling me about the future and how they're bringing in an excellent class. He said once they get the players to adapt to his system and game plan the future is going to be bright."

Along with FSU, Josh is considering Iowa and Georgia Tech. All three schools have good engineering departments, which is the major Josh plans to enroll in. He said, "I'm looking at Iowa and Georgia Tech too. Christian was telling me about the engineering program. I feel like I can get a good education at FSU."

Overall the visit went well for Gehres, and a decision should be made in a few weeks. "I'd give the visit a 6 or a 7. It was a good visit for me as I got many of my questions answered. I got a chance to see the program and really talk to the coaches. Over the next couple weeks I am going to talk to my parents and make a decision. I think I'll be deciding before Signing Day," stated Gehres.
