Avis Commack is one of the top receivers in Florida this year. Florida State did a great job securing his commitment very early in the process. Avis has remained very solid throughout and was finally able to take his much anticipated official to FSU last weekend. According to him it was a great visit. He said, "It was a lot of fun. I got to meet Josh (Gehres), Zebrie (Sanders) and Ja'Baris (Little) for the first time. It was nice hanging out with them. I loved it there, man. It was fun to know that I have fans already and that people know who I am. I love the city of Tallahassee. The love the coaches and fans showed was great."
Coming into the visit Avis wanted to experience how it is to be a student athlete on the college level, as well as to get a chance to get to know some of his future teammates. "The love I was shown and the chance to meet the players and hang with them was what really stood out to me. I spent a lot of my time with Taiwan Easterling (his host), Bert Reed, Nigel Bradham, Terrance Parks, Vince Williams, Jermaine (Thomas) and Nigel (Carr). It felt like I've know Taiwan for a long time. As a group we got along well and I think I'm going to fit in well," stated Commack.
Avis told NoleDigest that he spent parts of every day meeting with the coaches. Form Bobby Bowden, Jimbo Fisher and to Lawrence Dawsey, Commack got a good feel for the coaches. He said, "My parents had a great time talking to Coach Bowden. They are comfortable handing me over to him for the however long he is going to be there. Coach Fisher wasn't there the first day, but he was talking to me more about life than football."
Commack came away from the visit with a major, stating that he plans to pursue a degree in sociology. He got a chance to meet with the advisor, saying, "I'm going to major in sociology. I got the chance to go over the program with the advisor. She was telling me different things I can do with it. I'm not sure what I want to do with it, but at least I'm coming in with a degree plan."
The visit for Avis was more about having fun and enjoying a weekend at his college destination. He said that the visit proved to him that he made the right choice, and that he can't wait to get there in the summer. "The visit reaffirmed everything for me. I just wanted to see how it was and I loved it. I can't wait to get there in the summer. I'm coming with Nigel and Jermaine right after graduation. I'm excited and I'm ready to go," expressed Commack.
While it is up in the air if Avis will redshirt, he is a prospect that will blow up when he hits a college strength program. FSU is getting a player that is great with the ball in his hands. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Avis and the rest of the 2008 recruiting class.
