Anthony Hill had always dreamed of getting an offer from Florida State, so when he got it he jumped on it very quickly. Since then he has made it clear that FSU is the only school he is thinking about. Next weekend he'll be making his official visit, and it's something he's been waiting for. He said, "Everything's been going well. Next weekend I'm taking my official visit. I'm excited, and it's something I've been waiting for. I've been there so many times, but this trip they really show you around and take it to a different level. They sort of cater to you. It's important to me I make this visit because it's right before Signing Day. I'm going to try to do some recruiting to help us finish strong."
This past season Pensacola has one of the best teams in the Panhandle. After dominating the regular season Hill thought his team would make a run to the state championship, but that dream faltered after a first round upset. For Hill it was a major disappointment. "We lost in the first round. We had a really great year. In that game we allowed 3 plays that beat us. We flat just didn't come to play. I really expected different than it turned out. I think we had a state championship team," said Hill.
Anthony was named to the 3A All-State team after having a good individual season. "On a personal level the season went well for me. With the team we had I played only one half in a lot of the games. I had 70 tackles and 13 sacks. Being on the All-State team felt really good because there were some great athletes on that team. To be mentioned with some of them is an honor," said Hill.
Anthony tells NoleDigest that he often speaks to the coaches. This past Friday Mickey Andrews came to his school for a visit. Hill said it went well, saying, "Coach Andrews came to my school Friday. He had a meeting that he had to go to, so we only met for about a half-hour. We just caught up on some things and talked about the defensive tackle situation. I've lost a lot of weight trying to get ready to play at FSU. At the Nike camp I weighed 305 pounds, but now I am 270. I wanted to lose the fat and build my body back up with healthy weight. I know Coach Odell (Haggins) likes his tackles fast, strong and smaller. He wanted me to drop some and I've really tried to do my best. With the suspensions and all I can come in and contribute if I work hard. I've been working hard in the weightroom and classroom, just waiting for this upcoming visit."
Hill reports a GPA of 3.3 and an ACT test score of 17. He intends on retaking it in February, and may take the SAT as well. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Anthony after his visit, as well as the rest of the 2008 recruiting class as National Signing Day quickly approaches.
