Ferrell is a tackling machine

To say the Tallahassee area is loaded next year may be an understatement. The Tallahassee area in 2009 may be one of the most talent-rich areas in the entire country. One of the local stars is FAMU High linebacker Willie Ferrell. NoleDigest caught up with the standout to talk about his plans to attend Florida State's junior day, and where he is at with his recruitment at this time.

Willie Ferrell is one of the top defensive players in Florida for the 2009 recruiting class. He is a ferocious hitter who does a great job of moving sideline to sideline. This weekend the FAMU High standout plans to attend Florida State's Junior Day. He said, "I'll be there bright and early. I live like right across the street so I'll probably be the first one there. I'm excited."

Even thought it is very early in the process for Willie he has been hearing from schools all over the country. At this time he only has one offer from Florida International, but several others are on the verge of extending offers. "I only have one offer and it's from FIU. Pretty much everybody has been contacting me. Florida State sends me mail everyday. I hear from Rutgers, Miami, USC and Oregon just name a few. I'm pretty open right now and I have no favorites. At this stage I'd say I am looking to go somewhere I can be successful in the classroom and that can make me a better player. Honesty from the coaching staff is important. I want them to do as they say. That's one reason I like FSU because they've been honest with me. I haven't gotten the official offer, but they tell me its coming," explained Ferrell.

Florida State is considered to be the favorite for Willie, and it's a school he'd love to attend. As of right now there is no offer on the table, but it could only be a matter of time. He said, "I will wait until after Signing Day for this year and go from there. I think that's the plan from the coaches at FSU. If something happens and I never get the offer, I guess it wasn't meant for me to go there. FSU is at the top of my list. Other schools I am considering are Miami, FIU, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Florida."

Willie told NoleDigest that he is very excited to attend the Seminoles' Junior Day. "I'm looking forward to having a good time. I'm very interested in them. I'm looking for the offer from them to go there. It is the offer I really want," explained Ferrell.

Last week Ferrell went to Florida's Junior Day and had a good time. Florida is a school that has shown interest in Ferrell, and it has begun to catch his attention. He said he had a good time at the camp, saying, "I went to UF's Junior Day. I had a nice time there. The coaches recognized me and they acted like they wanted me. They are intense there and they treated me very well. If they were to offer me they would be in contention with FSU."

Being that Willie is very close to the school itself, he has made several trips to check out FSU's practices and summer workouts. For Willie it gives him a glimpse into what he may be expecting if he decides that FSU is the place for him. He explained, "I've made numerous trips there during the summer workouts, games and practices. I know a lot of players there and I see what they do. They've shown me how it's done there. FSU runs some of the things that we run at FAMU. I just want to make sure that these coaches anywhere don't lie to me. But at FSU, I always have an invitation to go there. If they offer me I am going to decide before my senior year starts if God sees fit. I'm thinking that's going to be the time for me to decide if I have the offer from the certain school."

For Willie he may say he doesn't have a leader, but it looks like the Seminoles are the favorite to land his signature when it's time for the 2009 prospects to sign. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Willie and the rest of the 2009 recruiting class.
