Chris Thompson is one of the most dynamic players in the state of Florida for the 2009 recruiting class. The 5'8" 180 pound speedster dominated during his junior campaign as he rushed for over 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. He ended the season leading the Madison Cowboys to the 2A title as he went for over 200 yards and had 3 scores. While it's early in the process, Thompson has been hearing from a slew of schools. He said, "Recruiting is going pretty good. A lot of coaches are contacting me right now and I'm getting a lot of attention. The attention is good and all. As of right now I think I can deal with it."
There are several schools he is hearing from, but there is one that is standing out to him at this time. "I'm hearing from Florida State, Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Miami and FIU just off the top of my head. I've gotten a lot of offers and I'm hearing from some other schools. But seeing Jacobbi make the announcement today is pushing me to make my decision quicker. I really like the Seminoles and I want to play with Jacobbi in college. He is a good athlete and I guy I like watching play. Seeing this is going to push me a little harder. I've been talking to my parents about it a lot," stated Thompson.
It may not be a surprise to some that FSU has taken a huge lead with Thompson, but early on he liked one other school other than FSU. He said, "I really haven't had a top 5 or anything like that. I've been looking at FSU and Clemson, but now it's just really FSU." Thompson said a great junior day played the part saying, "The junior day was top flight. I got to see the facilities, the stadium and got to hang with some players. The visit just went great for me."
One aspect about Florida State that Chris likes is offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher. The way Fisher utilizes his players is very attractive to Thompson, and it's a reason why the Seminoles have really caught his eye. "I like the offense a lot at FSU. I think Coach Fisher is a great play caller and a great coach. He knows how to use his playmakers. He was telling me they see me as a Preston Parker type player and that they want to line me up all over the field. That's how I want to be used and a reason why I'm really looking hard at them," said Thompson.
As it stands right now it looks like Thompson may be one of the next 2009 prospects to commit to FSU. He told NoleDigest he's just thinking about it and when the time is right he'll make the announcement. He explained, "I'm thinking about it more and more. Once I really get a chance to sit with my parents, brother and coaches, I'll do it when it feels right. The fact that all these Madison guys go to FSU plays a part because I'll know other people there and I won't have a hard time getting to know everyone."
