Gary Brown is one of the top defensive players in the Big Bend area for 2009. He is one of those prospects that are quiet off the field, but turns into a beast on it. While it is early in the process, Brown has received one official offer and is hearing from many others. "The only offer I have right now is from Florida, other than that I'm just getting a lot of mail. Honestly, it's too many to really think of off the top of my head," expressed Brown.
One of the schools that have been in contact with Brown is the hometown Florida State Seminoles. Even though an official offer hasn't been extended, he does hear from them quite often. He said, "With FSU, you know, there are a lot of things I like about them. Really there are too many things I like about them to single out one thing. I grew up a fan of football, but I did grow up liking the Seminoles."
Defensive line coach Odell Haggins has developed a reputation as one of the best defensive tackles coaches in the nation. While he's missed on a few targets, he's still hit on others. This year it looks like he may hit it big. He is one reason why Brown likes the Noles. "I like Coach Odell a lot. I like his personality, and he is easy to talk to. It doesn't hurt that he puts guys into the NFL. That's pretty attractive, you know," said Brown.
While it is very early for Brown, he tells NoleDigest that he is pretty open in the process and to schools who may offer down the road. First off he plans to make some visits to camps this summer. He said, "I'm pretty open. I get asked what school I'd like to go to, but honestly if I go to any school I'll be happy. With the Florida offer, they are a school I'm considering. If FSU offers, I'll take a good look at them. I'm just going to sit and wait to see what happens with this. I'm planning to go this summer and do as many camps as I can. Right now I have no invites but I'll try to make all the ones I'm invited to."
Gary isn't a man of many words. He is pretty wide open at this time and is soaking in all of the information he's getting from the schools. He intends to go through the entire process to ensure he learns as much as he can to make the best decision. "I'm going to be a Signing Day decision and I plan on taking all 5 of my visits. That's probably best so I can learn what I need to make this decision," said Brown.
