Jonathan Scott isn't a familiar name yet on the recruiting scene, but it isn't because of his ability. He is one of the best safety prospects in Florida for 2009. While he only has one offer at this time, many schools are looking at him. "The only offer I have right now is from FIU," said Scott. "A lot of schools are looking at me though. FSU, Florida, Miami, South Carolina and West Virginia are some to name a few.
Florida State has long been a school in the picture for the ultra talented safety. In fact, he grew up a fan of the Seminoles. According to Scott, though, things may be starting to change. He said, "I used to be a die-hard FSU fan, but I've been changing some over to Florida and Miami right now. But I am really interested in FSU. They have a good legacy and the location is not far from home. People I talk to say they have a lot going on right now."
Scott feels he is the prototype at the safety position
Jonathan has attended games several times at FSU, and one of those was for the game against N.C. State this past season. At that game he had a chance to speak to a few legendary coaches, and he got a first-hand feel to just how much they think of him. "I went there for the games against N.C. State last year. I talked to Mickey Andrews and Chuck Amato. Coach Andrews told me that he is going to get me up there in Tallahassee, so we'll see. I did go down to Miami for a few games, too," explained Scott.
Many players have a list of dream schools they'd like to see offers from, and Scott is no different. His list contains some of the best of the best right now in college football. He said, "I'd like the offer from Florida State, LSU, USC because they are the real power right now, and Ohio State. I'd go there on a visit with my brother."
Jonathan's recruitment is just getting started, but he has a top 5 list of schools at this time. He tells NoleDigest who they are, and explains briefly what he likes about them:
FSU: "I'm a diehard fan. I love the school."
UF: "They had the National Championship and they are winning."
Miami: "They are rising. They'll be okay."
South Carolina: "They have the ‘Ol Ball Coach there."
West Virginia: "One of my homeboys goes there."
Scott has great size for a safety at 6'4" and 190 pounds. He feels his size helps him excel on the high school level. "I feel as thought I'm the prototype at the safety position because of my size. I see the whole field pretty well. I have good hips and can get down low and tackle. I do feel I need to work on my hands. I'm trying wide receiver this year so hopefully that'll come. I'll be playing both strong and free next year, but I want to play free safety in college," said Scott.
Jonathan says that he is planning on taking all 5 visits, and that he'll most likely decide on Signing Day. He feels that'll give him time to find the schools that fit what he is looking for. Those aspects are, "Coaching staff and they communicate. Good teachers are important because I want to learn. I want a family atmosphere, too. The playing time will come. Everyone wants to play as a freshman, but that's on me to put the work in."
