Spring Practice Preview: RB

FSU lost two tailbacks from last season. This is a position that was already short on numbers. Two players that started their careers at wide receiver will be lining up in the backfield at some point this spring. Here is a look of what fans should expect to see this spring.

#6 Antone Smith 5-9 188 Sr. Played his best game of the year against Kentucky in the Music City Bowl when he rushed for over 140 yards. Smith has been receiving high praise for his performance during off season workouts. Smith will need to stay healthy and establish himself as a dependable player.

#5 Preston Parker 6-0 191 Jr. Parker played runningback due to the lack of depth at the position because of injuries. Parker ran the ball very well for a WR. He arguably played the position better than any other back on the roster. This spring you will see Parker line up in the backfield and the slot.

#8 Brandon Paul 5-10 170 R-Fr. A former wide out that made the switch to the backfield. The redshirt freshman played tailback in high school. Paul has great speed on a small frame.

#28 Pat Davis 5-9 180 R-Sr. Davis is a walk on that has been with the program for a couple of years. He will contribute the most on the scout team.

What to expect: Smith will most likely be the guy this spring. FSU is very thin at this position so staying healthy is huge. Parker will be another threat out of the backfield. Paul will provide depth to a position that badly needs it. FSU will be depending on a couple of recruits to add talent to the position in the fall.

#41 Seddrick Holloway 5-10 247 Jr. Holloway had a couple nice runs last season. He needs to continue his development as a blocker and short yardage runner.

#35 Marcus Sims 6-0 230 Jr. Sims will be limited this spring. Sims got injured last season and missed most of the year. When he gets healthy he will give Holloway a serious push for the starting position.

#32 Joe Surratt 6-1 262 R-Sr. Surratt was suspended and injured last year. He will contribute the most on the scout team.

What to expect: Holloway will receive majority of the reps at fullback mainly due to the limitation of Marcus Sims. When Sims gets healthy he will be hard to keep off of the field in the fall.
