Long will be attending Garnet and Gold Game

Florida State has made a vast improvement with its offensive line over the last 2 recruiting classes. The coaches are looking to complete the transition with a solid 2009 class, and one of the players they have their eyes on is Austin Long. NoleDigest caught up with Long to talk about his recruitment and to see where the Seminoles stand at this time.

Austin Long stars for Briarcrest Christian Schools in Memphis, TN, and he's seen his recruitment get off to a pretty good start. At this time he has accumulated 9 offers from some of the top programs in the south, and two top-tier programs are constantly sending him mail.

"Everything is going good with recruiting. I am up to 9 offers, and they're from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Southern Miss, and Mississippi State. Michigan and Auburn have been sending me a lot of mail. Other schools have been sending heavy mail, but those two are the one's I hear from the most that haven't offered me."

Florida State is a school that Long doesn't know much about, but it is a school he is considering. The talented tackle plans on making the trip to Tallahassee on the 12th to see the spring game. He says the talks with the coaches have piqued his interest.

"I am going to visit FSU in 2 weeks to check out their spring game. My father has been talking to their offensive line coach for a while. I haven't had the chance to speak to him, but I plan to when I visit for the game. I want to get there and check it out, see how it is and meet the coaches. Right now it is about getting to know them better."

Florida State isn't the only school that Austin will be checking out over the next month. He made the visit to Georgia last weekend and has checked out a practice at Alabama, and he plans to check out 3 SEC rivals before the April is complete.

"I am going to check out Florida, too. I've liked them for a while, you know since I was a kid. I've talked to the offensive line coach and he wants me to come see the campus. I liked Georgia a lot. I like Coach Richt. That was a good visit. I'm pretty much open and I'll get a better idea after I see other schools. I went and watched a practice at Alabama and got a chance to talk to Nick Saban. That was cool. This weekend I am going to make a visit to North Carolina and Duke, and the weekend before the FSU visit I am going to check out Auburn."

The 6'6" and 270 pound Long says that most of the schools are looking at him as a tackle. He feels at this stage that he is a well-rounded player who just needs to continue to sharpen up his game.

"I have long arms and quick feet. I think I am good at both pass and run blocking. We have a pretty good quarterback who likes to stand in the pocket, so I think I pass protect more. But, I like to pull and get into my man with run blocking. Pretty much I need to continue to get stronger and faster like every kid my age."

Austin told NoleDigest that he is looking to visit schools as much as a possible and the best overall fit will be the one he signs with. The environment is the big thing for him, as he feels the playing time will come. He is on no schedule to make a decision, and says when "it feels right" he will make the decision.

With a good visit to FSU, look for the Seminoles to possibly become a bigger player in Long's recruitment. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Austin and the rest of the 2009 recruiting class.
