Owens Not Satisfied Yet

Following Saturday's practice, Rod Owens took the time to speak exclusively with NoleDigest on how spring practice has been going for him as well as a few other topics. He was very critical of himself and the offense but still optimistic about the team's future. Find out what he had to say!

NoleDigest: How do you feel the offense has been doing so far this spring?

Rod Owens: I don't know yet. We're just a little inconsistent right now. Some days we do good things and then other days it's like we take a day off. We just have too many mental lapses right now, me being one of them. We still have time to make corrections and start doing the right thing.

ND: So you would say the main thing that needs to change with the offense is mental toughness?

RO: I think that's exactly it. One main thing I think is that we get tired and then we really need to think about every little detail and I don't think we're there yet. Once we start to focus mentally, I think we'll look a lot better as a unit.

ND: Do you feel that the offense has progressed so far this spring?

RO: Yeah, but not we're not anywhere near where we want to be. I mean we came out yesterday (at the scrimmage) and made a few big plays and we did a couple things better. As a team, I just hope we don't have a repeat of last year. I know we can keep getting better and learn from our mistakes from last year and I think we will. It feels good to win, and we haven't done that in a long time. I think this year will be different but we have to go to work to do it.

ND: What about you personally?

RO: I mean, I feel like I've improved but that last scrimmage really got to me. I feel like I had the worst day of my life and I don't want to go back to who I was last year. I just want to put it behind me and keep getting better. I just need to stay consistent. That's what the coaches tell me and that's what I'm gonna do.

ND: Talk about Christian Ponder and how he has been doing since he's taken over.

RO: He's been looking real good. He has slowly been gaining confidence. He's my roommate and we always talk all the time and I can tell he has a lot more confidence. He looks like a new guy from day 1 to now so I think he's looked real good overall.
