Jenkins takes a visit to his future school

Florida State held their annual Garnet and Gold game on Saturday, and they hosted many recruits who were in town visiting. One of the recruits who made the visit is FSU commitment Brandon Jenkins. NoleDigest caught up with Brandon after the game to get his thoughts on the visit and to see what he has been up to lately.

Brandon Jenkins committed to Florida State in March, becoming the sixth commitment to the 2009 class. His commitment came before spring started, and it rounded out one of the best groups of early commitments across the nation. On Saturday the Florida High star visited FSU to check out the spring game.

"The visit today was good. I got here today at around 1 PM and brought some of my Florida High teammates. We watched the 3-D highlight film, spent some time with the strength and conditioning program and toured the campus. I hadn't been there for a while, but they did some things differently then before. The coaches seemed more enthusiastic and they explained things more. Spending time with coach Stroud was nice because he showed us some different lifting techniques."

Before checking out the game, Brandon spent some time with the coaches and the academic support staff. He says getting a chance speak with the coaches is always nice, but he really enjoyed seeing the academic side of things.

"I got a chance to sit and talk with coach Haggins. He was telling us about attitude and character, and that all of his players that have excelled had those characteristics. We talked more than just football, which was neat. What I really liked was the academic stuff. I got to tour that part and liked it. Being an early enrollee is still one of my main goals, so I want to make sure I get everything done I need."

While watching the game, Jenkins paid special attention to his future position and how they performed during the game. Overall he liked what he saw, and thinks the team is primed for a good run in 2008.

"I was impressed watching the defensive ends. I watched them most of the time, but the whole defense played really well. They had some big plays and didn't let the offense do much. The interception by Myron Rolle was nice and they were flying to the ball. With hard work I think I will be able to come in and the team as a freshman or sophomore. I thought the offense did well, and they had their moments. I'm pretty excited about next season, and I think they are going to surprise some people."

It is a very common theme that recruits talk to each other on these visits, sometimes trying to recruit for the school they are leaning towards. Brandon says that he spoke to some prospects from 2008 and 2009, and that the general feel was that FSU is on the rise.

I talked to a lot of recruits from both 2008 and 2009. The 2008 signees were talking about my committeemen and that they were happy I was coming in. With the 2009 recruits I was talking about where our class of commitments is ranked and all that. I got pretty good feedback from the players I talked to, and they said they could see the change in FSU for the future."

Jenkins plans on hitting the weightroom hard now that his basketball season is over. He got down to about 230 pounds from the basketball season, but plans on getting to 240 before the season. Other than that, Jenkins is just focused on getting ready for his possible enrollment in the spring of 2009. Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Brandon and the rest of the 2009 recruiting class.
