Andrew Carter saw his recruitment get off to a quick start as 7 schools offered him a scholarship early in the process. He says he has been getting a lot of interest from other schools, and says now that the spring evaluation period is upon us, that he's expecting more offers to come his way.
"Recruiting has been going great. I'm at 7 offers still. They're from Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, UCF, East Carolina, USF and Louisville. I've been getting a ton of mail heading into the spring. Schools like Florida, Clemson, Georgia and Indiana have been contacting me. Kentucky, Duke and Clemson are coming down to the school to come see me."
Early on it seemed as though the Florida Gators were the favorite team for Andrew. He says that really was never the case, but they have the major he is looking to pursue.
"With Florida, they never really were the favorite. They have a good zoology program, so that is what interested me the most about them. As of right now I still don't have an offer from them. I went down there for their spring game. The visit was okay. I was expecting to be able to talk to the coaches more, but they were spending a lot of time with the recruits who just signed."
The hometown Seminoles are a team that offered Carter early. He says that he made a few trips over to the school during the spring practices, and has talked to Coach Trickett on several occasions.
"I talk to the coaches there all the time. It's right down the road, so it's easy for me to get there. I went to a few spring practices and spoke to Coach Trickett. They were good and it was cool to get out there. Coach Trickett was talking to me about the depth issues they have and all that. From the first time they offered me I noticed that they don't have a lot of depth. They are looking at me as a guard and/or tackle, and feel that I could be a good asset to the team. Florida State is high on my list. It would be nice to stay close to home and have my family watch me play."
"It was cool having those coaches at my school. They were there talking to Coach Ragans. Before class I had a chance to talk to them. I'm keeping all my options open. Whatever school is the best fit for me, I'll go there. If one of these schools fits me more than the bigger offers, so be it."
Over the past month Andrew has made some unofficial visits to some of the schools he is interested in. He says the visits were good overall, but none of them distinguished themselves as a favorite.
"Like I said, I've been to Florida State and Florida. I also went and checked out Georgia, Auburn and South Carolina. Each of them had something good that I liked."
Georgia: "They haven't offered me yet, but I think they might. They are coming down sometime this spring to see me. Out of the schools I visited they are the one I haven't heard that much from."
Auburn: "I had a great visit there. I like what they are doing there. I think they will be offering me soon. I think I'll get that offer before the one from Georgia."
South Carolina: "This visit stood out the most out of the three because I got one-on-one time with the coaches when I was there. It was a great visit and I was able to check out their spring game."
Andrew wants to make his decision by the early fall. He has a timeframe of when he wants to make it, and has a date pegged for when he he'll make the announcement.
"I want to take all my officials before I make the decision, so as soon as I can make them I will. I want to make the decision after we play Lincoln. It's a big game for us this year and I think we are going to win. I don't like to make guarantees, but I think we will get it done. If something happened and we lost, I will make it after the Godby game. By that time my decision will be made."
