Longo is a high priority to Trickett, FSU

Sam Longo is quickly becoming one of the most heavily recruited linemen in the nation. Sam's offers are approaching 30, and they're from some of the best programs across the nation. Recently Florida State offensive line coach came to see Sam. NoleDigest spoke to the Bellbrook High standout to get his thoughts on FSU, and to see how his recruitment is going at this time.

Sam Longo is a 3-star offensive tackle on Scout.com. The devastating blocker has seen his recruitment begin to heat up big time, and it is something that he is excited to see. Coaches have stopped by in droves to see him, and he says he's been taking it all in stride.

"I'm up to 26 offers now, and it is amazing to me. I started out with just two, and now I have all of these other options to choose from. It's a real honor and it's been cool seeing all of these coaches coming by to my school. Michigan State and Miami stopped by today (Tuesday), Florida State was here Monday, and Virginia was here last Friday. If I had been told a few months ago that I'd be in this position, I would have laughed. It's been a humbling experience."

"My latest offers have been from UCLA and Missouri. I have had a couple more but I can't name them off the top of my head. I am definitely interested in them. UCLA is an up and coming team in a good league, and I like Missouri and the offense they run."

On Monday offensive line coach Rick Trickett was up in Ohio to visit Longo's school to watch him practice. Sam said after the visit the two had a good phone conversation as they talked for over an hour. Sam says the conversation puts Florida State in a good position at this time.

"Coach Trickett was up here yesterday (Monday). He watched me practice, and after that we talked over the phone. He was telling me about the school itself and how much he likes me as a player. He said that I am his top target at left tackle this year, and that if I came to FSU he could make me into a great player. Hearing that was nice and it intrigued me. He says that I can come in a play early which shocked me. When you think FSU, you think depth and athletes, so that concerned me some. After listening to Trickett and learning their situation and that they are hurting for depth that helps them out a lot. We talked for a long time about academics, history and his background. He seems like a really good guy."

The good conversation with Trickett put FSU on the list of schools that will most likely make Sam's top 5 list. He says that by the end of the month he hopes to have his list trimmed down, and that heading into June he plans on making a ton of visits to the schools he likes.

"I plan on cutting down my list by the end of May. FSU will be there and they are pretty high on my list. They'll be in it for sure. My dad and I are planning on making some visits in June. We drew up a schedule of schools and we plan on checking out 12 of them that I haven't seen yet. We are going to go out to California to see Stanford and UCLA, and then we will head back to see Michigan State, Penn State, Nebraska, Maryland and Michigan. After that we will head south and check out Florida State, Miami, Wake Forest and North Carolina State."

Sam states that the reason why he is planning all of these visits is to help him make the decision before the season starts. At this time he plans on making a final decision before the fall, and says these visits will help him make the decision easier.

"I want to make all of these visits because I am planning on making my decision before my senior season. If by chance I don't feel like I can make it, I will wait, but I think I will b ready to make it by then. I am not doing any camps because I want to focus on making these unofficials. By late July/early August I should be ready to announce. When I do I will be ending my recruiting process and be 100% committed to that school, and that will be the only official visit I take."

Coach Trickett likes the athletic linemen, and Longo fits what he likes to a "T". The 6'5" 260 pound Longo runs a sub 4.8 40, and moves very well for his size. He has a great frame to add good weight, which is another reason why Trickett has pegged him as his top left tackle target for 2009. With a good visit this summer FSU could go a long way in helping secure Longo's commitment in the early fall. Stay tuned to NoleDigest fir further updates with Sam and the rest of the 2009 recruiting class.
