4-star Dade County DE/LB talks about FSU

Olivier Vernon is one of the top players in the state of Florida and arguably the top defensive player. Florida State has made Vernon a high defensive priority. NoleDigest had the opportunity to speak with the South Florida prospect recently about his recruitment.

What schools made a visit to see you during the evaluation period?

OV- A couple of schools. FSU, UF, South Florida, UM, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

What coaches came to see you from FSU?

OV- All of them.

Did you have a chance to speak with any coaches?

OV- Yes. I spoke to Coach Amato and the tight ends coach (Coach Coley) on the phone. I spoke to Coach Coley and then he handed the phone to Coach Amato. Coach Amato was telling me that I could play linebacker. He also told me that they could use me at defensive end or linebacker. Coach Coley was funny. He was telling me that he can sue me at tight end (laughs).

Do you have a prefer LB or DE?

OV- It really doesn't matter. I see myself playing defensive end in college though. I'm more comfortable at that position and I have been playing there all those years.

Do you plan to come to camp at FSU?

OV- Yeah I'm coming. They want me to come to the Showtime. I'm probably coming up there with some teammates and coaches.

Do you think you'll take an official visit to FSU?

OV- Yes, I do.

What schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?

OV- I really don't have a top 5 but I would say UM, South Florida, Alabama, Wisconsin, and FSU.

Since you're a soft commitment to UM, what do other schools have to do to catch up?

OV- I'm still open. They would just have to show a lot of love. That's what UM is doing.

Bonus on Vernon- His mother is from Switzerland and that's where he got his name from. He plans on hitting the books hard this summer so that he can graduate in December. Vernon is a good teammate. Olivier has spoken to a current walk-on at FSU named Tim Orange that attended American.
