FSU Women's Soccer Inks Top Recruiting Class

Soccer Buzz ranks the 2008 class as the best in the country.

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State women's soccer program has claimed the number one ranked recruiting class in the nation for 2008 according to Soccer Buzz. The Seminole class includes five PARADE All-Americans and five participants on the U.S. U-18 National Team.

The honor marks the first time the Seminoles have been ranked No. 1 in recruiting. The ranking comes on the heels of FSU's second ranked class in 2007 making it the first time Florida State has had back-to-back top 10 classes.

Florida State will welcome six freshmen to Tallahassee this season. The newest additions to the Seminole soccer team include midfielder/defender Tori Huster (Cincinnati, Ohio), defender Julie Lancos (Belford, N.J.), forward Tiffany McCarty (Laurel, Mary.), forward/defender Toni Pressley (Melbourne, Fla.), forward/midfielder Casey Short (Naperville, Ill.) and defender/midfielder Ella Stephan (Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.).

This is the second consecutive year that FSU has registered a top 10 recruiting class by Soccer Buzz and the fourth time in school history. In 2007, the Seminoles had the second ranked class in the nation led by Soccer Buzz Freshman of the Year Amanda DaCosta and Soccer America Freshman of the Year Sanna Talonen. The freshmen class contributed to 37 percent of the total scoring responsible for 88 of the 233 total points. In 2001, Florida State earned its first top 10 national ranking of eighth and topped that mark in 2003 with a No. 7 national ranking.

FSU is now the only ACC team to finish ahead of North Carolina in national recruiting three times. The Virginia Cavaliers ranked above the Tar Heels two times in 2001 and 2005. Florida State is also the only team to rank atop the Southeast Region more than once other than North Carolina.
