4-star DT talks about his recruitment

Defensive tackle was a major need in the 2009 recruiting class for Florida State, and so far they've done well addressing that need as Jacobbi McDaniel and Demonte McAllister have already committed. With the need for one more commitment at that position the coaches have targeted Arthur Jeffrey. NoleDigest spoke to see what role, if any, the Noles will play in his recruitment.

Arthur Jeffrey is rated as Scout.com's 17th best defensive lineman for the 2009 recruiting class. As one of the top defensive tackle prospects in Florida, Jeffery finished his junior season with 74 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, five blocked kicks, and four caused fumbles. He was the area's Defensive Player of the Year as voted by area coaches. The Sarasota-Booker product says that his recruitment is off to a solid start as schools have been in contact with him for some time.

"Recruiting is alright right now," said the 4-star Jeffrey. "It's pretty good. I have somewhere around 10 offers from everyone in Florida, Tennessee, Clemson and Georgia. A lot of schools have been showing me interest and when school starts I think it's going to pick back up. I had a good season last year but I want to build on that so I think more schools will come. I'm planning on winning state's this year."

Florida State and Coach Odell Haggins have been recruiting Arthur for some time and he says he is interested in what the Seminoles have to offer as a program. He says at this time that he's real comfortable with Coach Haggins and that he's talked to him from time to time.

"I'm interested in Florida State," explained Jeffrey. "My dad always watched them and always talked about the athletes they put out. I call them every now and then and talk to Coach Haggins when I have questions to ask. He's real cool. I feel comfortable talking to him. When I call he always tells me to keep working on my hands and getting better. He says they like me a lot as a future player there."

Jeffrey told NoleDigest that he is wide open right now with his recruitment and that he intends on going the distance with his process. The 6'5" 275 pound athlete says that a commitment from him won't come any time soon.

"I am really open right now and I don't plan on sticking to a team right now, stated Jeffrey. "I have a range of schools that I want to be at but I am not there yet. I plan on going through the whole process because I want to wait it out to see who else gives me an offer. I don't want to jump to a decision now then end up making changes with it later on."

While Jeffrey doesn't know the schools that will play a part in his decision he does know what he is looking for in a school. Location will play a role and the opportunity to play will also help Arthur make his final decision.

"I want to feel like I am at home with a school," said Jeffrey. "I have to be comfortable around the coaches and around the team. That's important. Also I want to be able to come in a play early. I love to compete and I know that whatever school I go to I will have to do that. The better man always wins so if I win that means I worked hard, but if I don't that means I need to continue to get better and work harder."

It's likely that Arthur's recruitment will take off due an expected strong senior season. Florida State has done well in placing themselves among the teams that Jeffrey will be considering but they're going to have to continue to work hard until he makes his decision on Signing Day. Stay tuned to NoleDigest as we track Arthur's recruitment, as well as the rest of the 2009 recruiting class.
