Running backs coach Billy Sexton confirmed Wednesday that Nick Maddox will be held out of the game, and reserve tailback Willie Reid said he does not expect to play Saturday. Sexton said that scenario leaves him with three tailbacks in Leon Washington, Thomas Clayton and Ryan Reynolds.
"Nick ain't going to play. He will be back for the bowl game," Sexton said. "Yeah, Leon, Thomas Clayton and Rian Reynolds. That's all we have left."
There will be another change on the field, one that many fans have called for this season – offensive coordiator Jeff Bowden will be in the press box Saturday, while quarterbacks coach Daryl Dickey will move from the pressbox to the sidelines.
"Daryl kind of suggested that get down on the sideline and be with his quarterback, which is not bad," Bobby Bowden said. "Then, we just felt, a lot of times Jeffery being the coordinator. .... sometimes we've had the coordinator upstairs and sometims we've had him downstairs. We just thought maybe this would be something that might help us. We don't know."
What the Seminoles do know is that Chris Rix returns as the Seminoles' starter at quarterback. Jeff Bowden has been pleased with Rix' preparation.
"Kind of reminds me of the Clemson game, where he had to sit out," Bowden said. "He has been eager to get back and he's back. He's pretty aware of what's going on. It's flowing pretty good, so I am pretty pleased with that."
