Gameday: Western Carolina

Florida State opens the 2008 football season this evening against Western Carolina (1-0). Western Carolina has a couple of impact players that FSU must keep an eye on such as LB Quintin Phillips (pictured). NoleDigest gives a final prediction on a game as well as profiling Western Carolina's top players.

Impact players

#6 RB Jayson Williams is a player that Western Carolina tries to get involved early and often. Last week against Shorter College he had 91 yards rushing with a TD and 6.5 yards per carry. Williams is a transfer from UCF. He is Western Carolina's biggest playmaker.

#80 WR Marquel Pittman is Western Carolina's go to WR. He had 6 receptions for 109 yards with a TD for 18.2 yards per reception in last week's game. He is WC's top returning receiver. He's big (6'3) and will be a match-up problem on the outside.

#50 LB Quintin Phillips had double digit tackles in last week's victory over Shorter. Named 1st team All-Conference. Finished last season with 127 tackles. The sixth highest in school history. Had a 20 tackle game last season. He's big and he moves very well.

FSU is too fast, too strong, and too skilled for Western Carolina. It will be a major speed and talent difference on the field tonight. This will be redshirt sophomore Christian Ponder's coming out party. He will make his first career start ever. Also FSU will be starting two true freshmen (DT Moses McCray & OL Zebrie Sanders). Many other true freshmen will see playing time tonight as well. At the end of the day the Noles' will be too much for Western Carolina.

Prediction- Noles 56 Western Carolina 10
