Grades & Tomahawks vs. CU

The Florida State Seminoles (3-1) defeated the Colorado Buffaloes who were undefeated entering the game, 39-21. Florida State senior RB Antone Smith rushed for 154 yards and 3 TD's in the victory.

Offense- B-. The offense had 378 total offensive yards against CU. The offense gets this grade primarily for the running of Antone Smith, play calling, and offensive line. Smith had his best game as a Seminole RB. He rushed for 154 yards and 3 TD's. He ran the ball very hard, and physical. The play calling was much better than last week against Wake Forest. The young offensive line did not give a sack and helped FSU have over 200+ rushing yards. FSU needs better production from the QB position if they they want to reach their full potential on offense. The "O" also needs to get their best deep ball threat Corey Surrency involed in the game as well.

Defense- B. The defense only allowed 278 yards to Colorado. The defense played very well outside of a couple of blown assignments. The reason for a some of those mistakes were because the calls into the defense were late. That explains how a Colorado offensive player could be running wide open. The defense got 4 sacks and also collected an interception. From an unofficial count it looked like they reached their goal with less than 10 missed tackles. The "D" will get better when DT Paul Griffin is available this week.

Special Teams- A+. This group caught a lot of heat for their past performances which were justified but they played EXTREMELY well against Colorado. Anytime you score, block a kick for a safety, cover kicks well, and make all your field goals and extra points then special teams are a factor. FSU averaged 39.8 yards per kick return. Many of those yards were gained on Michael Ray Garvin's 94 yard kickoff return but Patrick Robinson & Bert Reed had very good returns as well. Graham Gano's two fg's were big.
