Offense- B. The offense played a solid game. The play calling for majority of the game was good outside of the last meaningful offensive play. QB Christian Ponder did some nice things in the passing game especially when he stepped up in the pocket and threw the ball. RB Antone Smith may have had his best run of his career on his TD run. WR Bert Reed showed off his excellent speed all night. FB/RB Marcus Sims was a pleasure to watch him run as physical as he does and catch the ball out of the backfield. WR Taiwan Easterling is becoming a very reliable receiver. Even though some throws were a little short some receivers dropped very catchable passes. But they did some excellent blocking allowing many big runs and plays. The offensive line really struggled. They gave up the most sacks in a game all season and had too many holding penalties.
Defense- C. The defense didn't play up to their standards. It's clearly obvious that the top two defensive tackles are Paul Griffin and Justin Mincey. The ends did not contain. Losing LB Dekoda Watson hurt. The front seven played well at times during the game but were ineffective for a good majority of it. Outside of the TD play, CB Korey Mangum played a very solid game. Rover Myron Rolle played another very good game. North Carolina State does have two future NFL backs in Andre Brown and Jamelle Eugene. Give NC State credit as well for creating a good offensive game plan against FSU.
Special Teams- B+. Graham Gano gets an A+. Louis Givens gets an A. The rest of the special teams gets a D. Gano made a great game clinching 53 yard kick. Louis Givens is a one man kick-off tackling machine. Please get rid of that ridiculous punt formation. The kick-off return team can run up the gut and then choose to hit a seam more effective than to run outside where the kick-off team wants you to run.
