Grades & Tomahwaks vs. Georgia Tech

The Florida State Seminoles lost to Georgia Tech yesterday at Bobby Dodd Stadium, 31-28. This is the second conference loss for the Noles'.

Offense-B+. Florida State's offense had a total of 384 yards against Georgia Tech's defense. QB Christian Ponder made an excellent throw for a score. Fellow redshirt sophomore D'Vontrey Richardson made another superb throw for a touchdown. True freshman Jermaine Thomas was the star for the offense though. The Jacksonville native had 130 yards rushing on only 9 carries. Preston Parker was on the receiving end of Richardson's touchdown pass. Parker made an incredible catch over the Georgia Tech defender. WR Greg Carr made some nice catches on a couple slant routes. The offensive line held their own against a very solid defensive front that has a couple future NFL players. The turnovers hurt the Noles' on O especially the last one. Florida State's offense is improving though and that's a good thing to see.

Defense-F. The defensive game plan was terrible against Georgia Tech's triple option. The Noles' gave up the most rushing TD's in a half in over a decade. Runningback Jonathan Dwyer had 145 yards rushing and two touchdowns against a defense that prides themselves on stopping the run first. The starting quarterback also had 60 yards on the ground as well. The defensive tackles were told to dive on the ground taking them right out of the play. The defense was not aggressive at all. They were catching and waiting for blows rather than delivering them. The only real bright spot was Patrick Robinson's nice interception in a critical part of the game. Lastly, no adjustments were made which was not a good thing to see.

Special Teams-C-. Graham Gano played another excellent game. He was actually able to kick the ball into the endzone which was great for a struggling unit. The kick-off coverage was once again very poor which gave Georgia Tech excellent field position and opened their whole offense. Michael Ray Garvin had a big-time return on the kick-off return team. Georgia Tech also almost blocked a punt.
