Keys to a Nole' Victory vs. Boston College

#19 Florida State (7-2) hosts Boston College (6-3) in their annual Black Out Game at 8 pm on Saturday night. This game is huge as far as playing for an ACC title with a chance to go to Tampa. Here are a couple keys to a Nole' victory.

1) Use your Speed. Florida State is one of the fastest teams in the country with at least a third of the team being able to run a 4.5 or better. Boston College will definitely have a size advantage over Florida State this Saturday especially on the offensive and defensive lines. Teams have had success against Boston College's defense by getting outside on the edges. Florida State will also have to use technique & speed to beat BC's offensive line.

2) Pressure Crane. Opposing defenses that have been able to get to Chris Crane have been able to make him turn the ball over. He's thrown 12 interceptions with only 8 passing touchdowns. This will be a huge key for the Florida State defense. Last week FSU was able to sack Clemson's QB 6 times. Crane is a big QB at 6'4 239 lbs. He's not the most mobile QB but if he has time to set up he can beat you with his arm. This is his first season as a starter for the Eagles.

3) Secret to Success this season for FSU-Running the Ball. Florida State hasn't had a running game since Greg Jones, Leon Washington, and Lorenzo Booker were in the backfield for the Noles'. FSU is averaging more than 200 yards on the ground. Senior RB Antone Smith is having his best season ever at Florida State. True freshman RB Jermaine Thomas has shown that he has a bright future at FSU. Coach Bowden actually compared his running style with Minnesota Viking RB Adrian Peterson. This will not be an easy task to run the ball effectively against the Eagles. They are ranked #1 in the ACC in rushing defense allowing 101 yards per game. The running game has allowed the passing game to open up for QB Christian Ponder.

4) Take your chances and be patient. Boston College does not allow many big plays especially in the passing game because of the type of zone defense that they run. Florida State will have to take their chances when the opportunity presents itself. With a zone defense, there will be holes that Ponder will have to find. The defense does not blitz a lot but when they do it has been effective. Boston College goes as far as the defense goes. If the Noles' are able to move the ball early and often it will be a long day for the Eagles.
