Christian Jones is the latest standout football player from his family. Both his father and brother played big-time college football at Florida State, and Christian looks like he will be on the same level as the 2010 recruiting process gets underway. The talented linebacker/defensive end prospect is coming off a great junior campaign as he recorded 163 tackles and 4 sacks. Right now Christian holds 9 offers, and he says the list is starting to grow.
"To be honest I kind of expected I'd get offers but this whole thing has still be surprising," said Jones about how his recruitment has been so far. "Recruiting has been going well and it is exciting. I'm trying to enjoy it. When you're little you dream of this but now it's coming true."
"I have 9 offers, and they're from FSU, Florida, Miami, USF, UCF, FIU, FAU, Michigan and Oklahoma," continued Jones. "I've been getting a lot of letters from a bunch of other programs, too. Georgia and Alabama are the two who've been sending me the most stuff lately."
Christian was in Gainesville recently for a visit to watch a basketball game, and it was a visit he says he enjoyed.
"I went to Florida for a visit for a basketball game," Jones said, "and I had a pretty good time. I talked to the coaches when I was there for the most part. It's a nice school and I like the coaches. The biggest thing they wanted to know is if I was going to FSU because of my family. We also talked about the position they liked me as."
The question of Christian going to FSU is a legit concern for coaches across the nation because he's always been apart of the FSU program. Between his father and brother playing there and several other family members attending the school, many consider him a heavy lean to continue that tradition. While Jones isn't ready to name a solid favorite, he did say FSU is in a favorable spot at this time.
"I grew up on Florida State," said Jones. "I've always been a fan of them and I never miss a game whether it's on TV or during a visit. It does play a role that my family is all FSU, but right now I'm not going to rush into it. My father and brother are letting me make my own decision but I am using their input to make a more solid decision."
The coaches at FSU have made Christian a priority as they've been in contact with him on several occasions. Recently Coach Fisher spoke to Christian about the future of the program, which was something Jones was happy to hear.
"I've talked to Coach Amato, Coach Trickett and recently I talked to Coach Fisher," explained Jones. "Last year I went up to the Virginia Tech game which was a blast. I talked to the coaches then, too. Coach Fisher spoke to me recently. He was telling me how he's going to be the next coach and how they're bringing FSU back. I love FSU and that's something that was good to hear."
All of the programs talking to Christian want him as either an outside linebacker or defensive end. He says he is a high energy guy who excels in pursuit. When asked who he likes to play like he mentioned a former FSU linebacker who's had a lot of success in the pros recently.
"I'm a guy who brings a lot of energy to the field," says Jones. "On the field I have the ability to run down plays and I play very hard like it is my last. I try to play like Ernie Sims and I bring it all of the time. Right now I'm just learning to read the play faster. I feel like I do that well already, but I just feel like that'll help me get more tackles behind the line of scrimmage."
Right now Christian doesn't have any set plans for visit but does say he may attend FSU's Junior Day on the 21st of this month. In the summer he plans on making visits and camping at some schools.
