FSU The Leader

This past weekend Florida State hosted their second Junior Day of the 2010 recruiting cycle. Some top names where in town, making it a great event overall for the recruits and coaches. Next weekend, while it is not a Junior Day, is shaping up to be a huge weekend for the ‘Noles as several top-flight recruits will be in town including one who says Florida State is his leader.

As we saw in the Offensive Hot Board earlier this week Florida State is going after a select few playmakers for the class of 2010. Getting electric wide receivers is on the agenda for the Seminole coaching staff, thus they've been out and about scouring the Southeast for some of the nation's best. Kenny Shaw has recently gained interest from the ‘Noles, and it is interest that is being reciprocated.

Early on in his recruitment the talk was that Kenny was a lean to Michigan. Now, that is not the case as the home-state Noles look to have taken the lead. Kenny told NoleDigest that talks with the coaches and the scheme the Seminoles run has catapulted them to the top of his list.

"The biggest thing going on with my recruitment is that Florida State is now number one for me," said Shaw of how his recruitment is going. "Michigan had been my leader but they are recruiting like 10 wide receivers so I don't know where I am with them. I've connected with the coaches at FSU since they offered me 3 weeks ago and I like the offense they run. I feel I could go in there and contribute right away."

Kenny is a big-time playmaker for Dr. Phillips in Orlando, FL. As a junior the 6'1" 170 pound Shaw caught 64 passes for 914 yards scoring 10 touchdowns. He earned several post-season honors, including All Central Florida First Team WR (Orlando Sentinel), All-Metro Conference First Team (coaches' vote), and FSWA 6A All-State Second Team. His playmaking ability is what the coaches like in Shaw.

"What really started it with FSU is talking to Coach Dawsey," stated Shaw. "He called up and talked to my parents for a while and did a great job. They really like him a lot. You can tell Coach is really good and I am comfortable with him. At first they weren't talking much about playing time but they feel like I can come in a play right away. I've spoken to Coach Trickett and Coach Fisher and they feel like I am a guy who can make plays for them. Coach Bowden saw my film and told the other coaches that they needed to get me up there as soon as possible. I am going to go up there next weekend for visit to check it all out."

Kenny says he has never been to FSU on a visit, so this weekend is big for him in terms of him checking out his new leader. While there isn't one particular thing he wants to see he did tell NoleDigest he wants to soak in the environment.

"I've never been to FSU," Shaw said, "so I want to go up and see the facilities, the campus and just the program overall. I'm excited to get there and see it and see how it is as a player. I'm very excited about the visit. When the NCAA ruling came down I was concerned with it, but after talking to the coaches it all got cleared up."

To some the news that Shaw now favors the Seminoles over the likes of Michigan, Miami, Tennessee and a host of other programs may be shocking. After what Shaw had to say it looks like FSU may be on top to stay.

"Coach Dawsey has really made an impact since he started recruiting me," said Shaw. "If Signing Day was today I'd be signing with FSU. With my connection to them and the offense they have I don't see anyone taking their spot. I'm going to go through the whole process but I feel FSU will be at top the whole time. I don't know what a school will have to do to change that but I don't think a school will be able to."
