Shaw Talks FSU visit

Florida State has made a serious move with Kenny Shaw over the past few weeks. After getting offered and talking to the coaches, Shaw came into town last weekend for a visit to check out the program. NoleDigest caught up with Kenny to get his thoughts on the visit and to see if he now has a solid leader with his recruitment.

A fan who follow recruiting knows how loaded at wide receiver in the state of Florida is for the class of 2010. Kenny Shaw is one of the most dynamic playmakers with the ball in his hands. After a standout junior campaign Shaw has seen his recruitment get off to a quick start as programs all over the nation are showing him interest.

Early on the gossip had Kenny following teammate and Michigan commitment Ricardo Miller up north. Kenny said that at one time that was the case, but when Florida State came calling his interest waned a bit on the Wolverines. After he started communicating with the coaching staff for FSU things changed rapidly as Shaw named the Seminoles his favorite. Last weekend the talented playmaker was in town for a visit. He told NoleDigest that the visit went very well.

"The visit overall was a really good time," said Shaw of his time in Tallahassee last weekend. "It was really more than what I expected to be honest. While I didn't get a chance to see everything I did get a chance to talk to Coach Bowden for an hour or so which was great. He was telling me how they've been evaluating me for a while and all that and about the school as a whole. He is a guy you always hear about and see on TV, so it was something to have the chance to talk to him."

Coming into the visit Kenny had just recently names the Seminoles as his favorite team. He said that he wanted to see the school and the coaches and how the offense uses the wide receivers.

"I was mainly looking for the offense and how the coaches are with the players," said Shaw. "What I liked most was how fired up the coaches are. I really liked that a lot. As far as the offense goes I definitely think I can play in it. Coach Dawsey was telling me that they haven't used all of the routes that they have, so it was great to hear they run a lot of routes. The team is young with a young line, guys that can run the ball, and most importantly two good quarterbacks in Christian Ponder and E.J. Manuel."

"The coaches were great there," Shaw continued about the visit. "They were cool and I feel that I can fit in there with them and the players. I saw an opportunity to come in there and play early. Initially that was what put them on the top. Seeing that now I know that it wasn't just a recruiting ploy to get me there."

Kenny told NoleDigest that he spent one-on-one time with all of the coaches, but it was his time with his potential position coach that really stood out to Shaw.

"I talked to Coach Dawsey, Coach Fisher and Coach Stroud all individually and all of those guys were real cool," Shaw said," but the time with Coach Dawsey was the best. He said he could be my father away from home. I was happy to hear that because I don't want to go too far away from home and get homesick. I really liked Fisher too. Coach Bowden has maybe 1 or 2 years tops left so knowing Coach Fisher is there is good. He knows offense and he's helped put a lot of receiver into the NFL."

After a great time the remaining question is why didn't he commit? After sitting down with his parents and talking it over with them, the Shaw's decided it was best to wait a bit to see what else happens.

"My parents had a great time there, but they want me to wait a little bit," explained Shaw of why he didn't become a commitment to FSU. "If it were just up to me I would have done it. After the visit I could see that my parents were really interested when I was talking to them. A lot has to happen for a school to take over the spot FSU has."

Kenny will be in Gainesville this weekend for a visit to Florida, and after that look for him to take a few visits after that. He will be in Tallahassee for the Nike camp in April and he says he will be in town for FSU's Seminole Showtime Camp in July.

Stay tined to NoleDigest for further updates with Kenny, as well as the rest of the 2010 recruiting class.
