Is Jones Ready to Name FSU his Leader?

Scout.com's 9th rated outside linebacker in the nation, Christian Jones, was in town this past weekend visiting the Seminoles for the annual Garnet and Gold game. NoleDigest caught up with Christian to get his thoughts on the event and to see if he is ready to name a leader at this time.

Christian Jones is a popular recruit among fans in the south, especially for in-state schools such as Florida State and Florida. The talented outside linebacker has been out and about recently making visits as college teams are well into spring practice. Last weekend Jones was in Tallahassee for the Garnet and Gold game. Christian told NoleDigest that overall the visit went great.

"I had a really good time over the weekend and I really enjoyed myself," said the 4-star linebacker. "It was a good visit overall. From talking to Coach Bowden to just hanging out with my coach; it was great. My coach is Brian Allen who used to play there so he had a good time."

Coach Bowden isn't the only coach who showed Christian attention as just about the entire staff made their way to Jones throughout the evening. The coaching staff as a whole at FSU is something that makes the Seminoles stand out according to the Lake Howell star.

"I spoke to Coach Fisher, Coach Haggins, Coach Carter, Coach Dawsey and Terrell Buckley when I was there," said Jones of the attention he received from the staff. "I really like Coach Buckley a lot. He is a great guy. The cool thing about the staff at FSU is that they are a family and that they give off a family-type environment. They are all good guys who are never negative, so that is something I am really comfortable with there."

While checking out the linebackers and the defense is something that was important to Jones on this trip, getting the chance to meet and hang out with some of the recruits from his class was something that stood out from the visit.

"I was talking a lot to Telvin (Smith), Darius Cummings and Jeff Luc," explained Jones. "We were talking about the team and about how we liked the coaches and all that. It was really positive talk and it had a good vibe. Darius was trying to get me to commit some."

Throughout his early recruitment Christian has been up front about his like for the Seminoles, yet he has said he's been open to any and all recruiting him. After the visit Christian said he's ready to name a leader at this time.

"FSU is my leader," Jones said, "but I don't want to be too hasty in making up my mind. I am going to still keep my options open to check out what is out there. FSU has just always been my favorite school, and when I got there yesterday I felt like I really belonged. The coaching staff plays a big role and I really like FSU's (coaches). They interested in me more as a person than a player. The fact that I play football is just apart of it to them."

Christian isn't sure about his summer plans yet as he is turning his attention to spring football May 1st.

"The only visit I know I will be taking here soon is probably to USF's spring game," said Jones, "That's the only thing lined up for now because I am getting ready for spring ball on May 1st. I can't wait for that."

The visit to FSU was overall a great experience for Christian as it solidified to him what he's thought FSU was about. Schools like Florida, LSU, Alabama and USC are schools Christian likes, but it seems like it is only a matter of time before Jones makes it official that he's a Seminole.

Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Christian, as well as the rest of the recruits from the 2010 recruiting class.
