Grayson High standout Shawn Green has seen his recruitment steadily pick up over the past month as colleges from all across the nation are starting to offer him scholarships. The Loganville, GA star had a solid junior season last year as he had 69 tackles, 22 for loss and 5 sacks. Heading into the spring evaluation period Shawn sits at 11 official offers with several more on the horizon.
"Recruiting has been great so far for me," said the 6'1" 280 pound defensive tackle. "ECU, Indiana, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, BYU, Louisville and now Florida State are some of the schools that have offered me. Georgia, Georgia Tech and New Mexico have been talking to me. Tech is visiting this week and I am going to a camp at Georgia on the 13th. I also have interest in schools like Florida, Alabama and Auburn. All of those schools are good schools and they do win a lot."
The offer from FSU came out of the blue for Green as he had sent them his highlight film but hadn't heard anything since. The coaches never contacted him before viewing the film, but after seeing it defensive tackle coach Odell Haggins decided to offer.
"FSU offered me last Thursday," Green said, "and I was very surprised by it because the coaches never contacted me. I did send them my tape, and I guess they liked what they saw. Coach Haggins told me he really liked my film and how they want me to come down and visit. He liked my shiftiness and ability to move side to side along the line."
"I also have spoke to Coach Allen before," continued Green. "He was saying pretty much the same stuff that Coach Haggins was. I have known him for a while because he used to coach with one of my current coaches."
Shawn told NoleDigest that he likes what FSU offer, but that at the same time he is eager to learn more about them.
"With FSU I am going to go there for a visit," explained Green. "I know they are a good school that puts guys into the NFL, but I want to get to know more about them."
Even though it is early in his recruitment Green did say that he has a top 5 at this time. While no particular school sticks out he did say these 5 have caught his attention:
1) Ole Miss: I've visited there and I liked the atmosphere a lot.
2) FSU: They have guys that go to the NFL there.
3) Georgia Tech: I liked the visit I went on.
4) Georgia: They are a winning team.
5) Duke: I want to be a lawyer and they have a great law school.
Shawn told NoleDigest that a decision will come towards the middle of his senior season because he wants to make sure he gets out and visits the schools that have offered.
"Right now I am looking at making up my mind the middle of the season," said Green. "I don't want to miss out on any offers so I am giving them all equal opportunity. I want to make sure I visit them all so I can see what coaches I get along with and to see which school has the better law program."
Shawn did say he will be in town for FSU's Seminole Showtime Camp in July. Until then stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Shawn, as well as the rest of the recruiting targets for FSU's 2010 class.
