Basford Gets the Offer He's Been Waiting For

Neil Basford from Bishop Kinney High in Jacksonville, FL was offered Wednesday by the Florida State coaches. NoleDigest caught up with him to get his thoughts on the offer and to see if the Noles have taken the lead.

Over the past 2 weeks Neil Basford's recruitment has started to take off. Schools have visited him while others have offered. Wednesday Basford got the offer he was looking for after Coach Coley from Florida State watched him practice.

"Over the past 2 weeks recruiting has started to blow up for me," said the 6'5" 235 pound tight end. "Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Indiana, Colorado State and Illinois have offered me. With Illinois they want to see how interested I am in them. A bunch of others have been coming by like Clemson and others have been sending mail."

"Today Coach Coley from FSU came by and they offered me," continued an excited Basford. "I was incredibly excited when the offer came from them. My coach told me to call Coach Coley after the practice to talk to him. That is when the offer came."

Coach Coley has been in contact with Neil over the past few months, and when the offer came he says it was something that he had been looking forward to. Basford told NoleDigest that the offer catapults them to the top of the list. In fact, he says a commitment may be imminent.

"I am really excited about the FSU offer," Basford said, "and they are the top school for me now. I still like Arkansas and Virginia Tech in my top 3. I was excited when those two came, but the FSU offer was great. I've already talked to them a few times, mainly to Coach Coley and Coach Haggins. The need tight ends and they like to get them involved in the offense. I really like that."

"I am going to go there a week from Saturday for a visit to check it out," continued Basford. "I want to look around and see it because I have never been there. I want to check out the atmosphere, see the coaches and the players, and see how Tallahassee is as a town. I'm definitely thinking about making a decision because there is no reason to really wait now that I got the offer I wanted. We'll see how the visit goes. I have to be honest and say I don't know how many more offers I want because the offer came today I was looking for."

Basford told NoleDigest that he may take a visit up to Virginia Tech, but it all depends if the visit to FSU goes well. If it does, look for Neil's recruitment to come to an end in a little over a week.
