Miles Dieffenbach is rated as the 5th best guard prospect in the nation by Scout.com. The Fox Chapel Area standout received his first official offer from the in-state Pitt Panthers last September, but nothing had come in since until this week. For Miles 3 new offers came in, and he says a few more are on the way.
"Last September I got my first offer from Pitt, and since then I hadn't heard anything until this week," said Dieffenbach. "Syracuse, Minnesota, Northwestern and Florida State all offered me this week. A bunch of other schools have come out to see me and I think Purdue and Virginia are also close to offering. I have high expectations for myself so I expected to be recruited, but at the same time seeing schools like FSU offer me is unexpected and exciting."
Florida State coach Rick Trickett has been in contact with Miles leading up to the offer. Miles says that he gave Coach Trickett his film on a visit, and after that the offer came.
"Coach Trickett has called me up before after he heard about one of my combine performances," explained Dieffenbach. "He came by my school and I gave him my film. He looked at it and decided to offer me. I was very excited when I got the offer because of the program FSU is. They always have the players that lets them compete for national titles, they have Coach Bowden and the prestige, and they have Doak Campbell which is the largest brick structure in the country."
Dieffenbach told NoleDigest that he has built a good relationship with Coach Trickett and that he can see himself playing for him.
"I like Coach Trickett," Dieffenbach said, "and I like what he able to do as a coach. He is a tough coach but I think I can deal with that because I am an aggressive player. Also, there are a couple coaches at my school who are like that. I have a grandma that lives in Boca Raton so when I go this summer I am going to try to head to FSU for a visit."
Miles isn't ready to name a favorite yet but the in-state Panthers are the program he is most familiar with at this time.
"I don't have any favorites or anything right now because I want to get out and see other schools," said Dieffenbach. "Pitt has been around for so long, and they were the first school that offered me. I've been around the coaches a lot, but I want to get out and see the other schools I like."
There will be three factors that will go into Miles' decision. He hopes to find the school that matches his criteria before the season starts as he wants to wrap up his recruitment before the end of summer.
"I'd say there are three things I am looking for in a school," stated Dieffenbach. "First are academics. Second is a place where I can compete for championships, and the third would be a place I have a chance to see the field early. After I visit schools this summer I hope to make my decision before the season starts so I can focus on my senior year."
Miles, who grew up playing tennis, says that his footwork and toughness is what sets him apart from other recruits at his position. Working on his strength and quickness are the things he plans on working on before he gets into college.
"I always want to improve my strength, agility and quickness because that will help me on the next level," explained Dieffenbach. "I also want to add muscle and keep my good weight. I'm a guy who is aggressive and tough and I am able to take coaching and learn."
Miles says that he has a 3.5 GPA and an 1100 on the old SAT.
