Basford Talks FSU Visit and Recruiting

Since the offer from Florida State came Neil Basford has said the Seminoles are his top school. This past weekend the Bishop Kenny standout was in Tallahassee to check out the school on an unofficial visit. NoleDigest spoke to him to see how the visit went, and to see if he is closer to a commitment.

The need for tight end at Florida State is evident as the coaches have offered several prospects from all over the nation. One of the Seminoles' top targets is Jacksonville-Bishop Kenny standout Neil Basford. After Coach Coley watched Neil practice an official offer was extended to the talented tight end. Since then Basford has named the Noles as his favorite.

This past weekend Basford was in town to make his first visit. According to Neil the visit went great and it was much more than he expected.

"I had a good time on my visit to FSU this past weekend," said Basford. "It was awesome man really. I saw everything from the campus to the facilities. It was my first time there. I was impressed with it because it is a good college town that has people that love their football."

Coming into the visit Neil wanted to spend more time with Coach Coley and get a better understanding of FSU as a program. He told NoleDigest that all of the questions he had were answered and that he liked what was presented to him.

"I wanted to get a better understanding of FSU and hang out with Coach Coley more," said Basford on his goals for the visit. "I got a chance to meet Coach Fisher and talk to him some. I liked what I heard from both coaches. Coach Coley was talking a lot about the football side of things and about how they need tight ends badly. I want to play early so it is good that there is chance that I can play very early there."

"The questions I had dealt with how they used the tight end," continued Basford. "I was satisfied by what I was told. They showed me some plays and we watched some film. Even though this was the first visit I've been on I am highly interested in FSU. I have a good relationship with Coach Coley and my dad was very impressed by the visit. Now I just need to take a few more visits to get a better idea and to make sure of my decision."

With the Seminoles locked into the top spot for Neil he now plans on making a few visits over the next couple weeks. He has a camp visit to Florida this weekend, and he has some other schools he'd like to see. According to Basford his picture will be much clearer after this weekend.

"I am going to Florida for their one day camp this Sunday, and after that I will figure out more after that on what I'll do," explained Basford. "I just want to compare the visit to each other and see how they measure up because I will be spending 5 years of my life there. Other than Florida I will be checking out South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and maybe Arkansas. What is really big for FSU is that it is good football and it is very close to home."
