Damien Jacobs Talks Recruitment

Damien Jacobs has been getting a lot of interest from Florida State since the spring evaluation period started. NoleDigest caught up with the defensive lineman to get his thoughts on his recruitment and to see if the Seminoles are still his favorite after the LSU visit.

Early in the 2010 recruiting cycle Damien Jacobs wasn't known about by many college coaches or recruiting websites. After a junior campaign that saw him accumulate 81 tackles, 10 sacks and 7 forced fumbles Damien thought coming in his recruitment would get off to a solid start. Since the spring evaluation period ended Jacobs has seen his recruitment pick up a lot of steam as BCS programs are showing him a ton of interest.

"At first I wasn't getting a lot of attention but now things are going pretty well for me," said Jacobs of his recruiting process. "I have 9 offers now and there are others showing me interest. Florida State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, FIU, Tulane and Tulsa have offered and schools like LSU, Tennessee, Nebraska and Auburn have been showing me a lot of interest."

The Southern Louisiana standout attended LSU's camp last week, but he says the Tigers have not extended an offer at this time.

"I went to LSU's camp and I felt like I did pretty well," said Jacobs. "They told me when I was leaving that they would keep in touch with me. Right now they are kind of taking it slow. I'm developing relationships with the coaches and I like them, so if they offered they'd go up to the top 3 of my list. I wouldn't put them at the top because I have a better relationship with other schools at this time."

One of the schools Jacobs is referencing is FSU. The coaches have been showing the 6'3" 290 pound tackle a ton of interest. The hard work is paying off as Jacobs says FSU is his leader at this time.

"I like FSU right now and I'd have to say they are my leader," explained Jacobs. "They have a great reputation. I've been talking to the coaches a lot over the phone so now I am just waiting to go there to meet them in person. I think I'll like them more. Coach Coley and I have been getting to know each other well so that has been so far so good. I also have been talking to Coach Haggins. He has a great reputation as a coach because he has been there for like 15 years and he's put so many guys into the NFL."

"On thing that Coach Haggins has told me that he likes my size and that I could come in there early and see some playing time," continued Jacobs. "I'm looking forward to my visit there in July. I hope it is the great place I have heard it is. I want to see if I can see myself there going to school and playing football. I like the coaches, and I feel they are making that program strong again because they are bringing big time kids into the program."

Jacobs says that he's looking for 3 things in a school, and that he has no timeframe set up for his decision.

"The three things I will be looking for in a school are playing time, coaches and the area/atmosphere," said Jacobs of what he's looking for. "I'm not really sure on when my decision will come but I am going to make my decision when it feels right."
