Catching Up with Christian Jones

Christian Jones has been laying low since the school year ended. NoleDigest caught up with the Lake Howell standout to see what the latest is with his recruitment and talk about his summer plans.

Christian Jones is one of the top outside linebackers in the nation for the 2010 class. Entering the spring Christian wanted to prove his worth as a recruit, and by all reports that is what he did. Now that the school year is over Jones says he has been working out and playing basketball.

"Pretty much right now I am just working out and playing basketball," said the 4-star linebacker. "As far as the spring it went great for me. As a team we lost to a good team, but we played well and played hard. Now we just need to put it together for the fall."

Christian told NoleDigest that he isn't going to do much when it comes to camps other than a basketball camp this weekend in Gainesville and Seminole Showtime in July.

"It is the same ‘ol same ‘ol when it comes to my summer plans," explained Jones. "I'm not real sure of the plans but I know I will be in Gainesville Friday for a basketball camp. I might talk to some of the coaches then because I don't know if I will be going to Friday Night Lights. I will be going to Seminole Showtime in July."

Florida State has been the school sticking out to Christian throughout his recruitment so far, and he says that is still the case. While other coaches tell him they want him, Jones says he feels it is more serious when he hears it from the Seminole coaches.

"I talked to Coach Amato Tuesday," said Jones. "He was telling me about how much they need me and want me there. It seems different from the other coaches because of the relationship I have with the people there. It is more serious with them. I also have talked to Coach Trickett and Coach Haggins. I get along well with Coach Trickett. My coach tells me we won't get along when I'm beating his linemen (laughs)."

Over the spring there was talk that Jones had put on weight and that he was pushing 230 pounds. With that talk people have said a move to defensive end in college is looking more and more like a possibility.

"I don't know how much bigger I am because I haven't gotten on a scale," Jones said, "but I do feel bigger though. I know people have said I may play end in college. Honestly it doesn't matter to me where I play, but I wouldn't mind playing both if I could. Whatever happens with it happens, and I want to play whatever takes me farther in my career."

Jones says he he'll trim his list down sometime late this summer.

"I don't know if it will be a top 5, 8 or whatever, but it is going to be whatever I get it to," stated Jones about his plans to trim his list. "I know FSU, Florida, USC and Oklahoma will be on that list. I'd still say FSU is the one sticking out but I am trying to keep it open. This is all exciting and I am enjoying it."
