Jared Haggins and Florida State have been linked together since the start of the 2010 recruiting cycle. While FSU had stood out among the group of schools Haggins was looking at he kept schools like Ohio State, USF and Tennessee under consideration. On Wednesday the Lakeland athlete decided to end his recruitment and commit to the Seminoles.
"Really this morning I woke up and it kind of happened," explained Haggins of his decision. "I was evaluating the schools I was looking at and decided to go ahead and do it. Why not? I've been there so many times; its family and I know my way around there. It came down to Ohio State and FSU, but in the end I felt FSU had more for me as a player."
On Saturday Haggins told NoleDigest that he was still interested in playing on the defensive side of the ball in college. He went as far to say that if FSU offered him a chance to play safety he's jump on the decision. After talking to Coach Dawsey Haggins is content staying on offense in college.
"I called up Coach Dawsey this morning and told him I had been evaluating the schools and that I was ready to make my decision," said Haggins. "Since he is going to be my position coach on the next level I told him about it."
"I am okay playing wide receiver on the next level," continued Haggins about his decision. "On defense I think I could be a good defensive back but on offense there wouldn't be too much of a transition to make. Coach Dawsey feels that I am what they needed. I run good routes, I am quick and I have good size for a wide out."
Jared says that he is fully committed to FSU and that he is ready to turn his attention to his team.
"I'm fully committed to FSU so now I can turn my focus on being the quarterback at Lakeland High," said Haggins. "I can't get too ahead of myself with this commitment but I am excited. I have to turn my attention to my team and get ready for the season."
Haggins did have a few words for Seminole fans.
"Just let the fans know that I am going to come in and be as successful as I possibly can."
Stay tuned for further updates with Jared as we track his senior season.
