Abrams Back from Injury

Florida State commitment Chad Abrams got a late start to his senior season as he is just getting over a hand injury he sustained at the USF Sling and Shoot this past summer. NoleDigest caught up with the Lakeland-Kathleen standout to update his recruitment and to see if he is still firm in his commitment.

One of the first commitments for Florida State this year was Chad Abrams from Lakeland-Kathleen. When he verbally committed to FSU he wasn't on the national radar, but since then he has shown through summer camps that he is one of the better safeties in Florida for 2010.

Abrams was at USF's Sling and Shoot this summer as Kathleen was one of the 60+ schools participating in the 7-on-7 tournament. Chad played very well throughout, but towards the end of it he suffered a hand injury that had kept him out until this past Friday's game.

"I've missed the first few games this year because I broke my hand at the USF passing camp over the summer," said Abrams. "Everything is straight now and I got a chance to play Friday. I've been antsy and it feels good to be 3-0. I didn't do too much as I had a few tackles but we won big."

Abrams told NoleDigest that he used the time away from contact to condition and get himself in prime shape for this season.

"I've been conditioning a lot and going through the drills," said Abrams of what he has been doing to stay in shape. "I want to maintain the weight I am at now which is 190. I don't want to get too much bigger than that."

Chad took in the Labor Day game against Miami, and he says he saw an opportunity where he can come in and compete for early playing time.

"It was sad how it came down to that dropped ball in the endzone," said Abrams. "When I was watching the game I saw that there is a little bit of an opportunity to play early. Overall I thought FSU played their hardest."

Abrams says his commitment remains firm and that he is in the process of talking to his mom about getting up to Tallahassee for a visit.

"Everything is good with FSU," said Abrams. "I have been talking to my mom about setting up a chance for us to go up there for a visit."

Stay tuned to NoleDigest as we track Abrams' senior season.
