JUCO Corner gets visit from new FSU DC

With all of Florida State's coaches in place they're starting to get out and about recruiting the top targets for the 2010 class. New defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is now on the recruiting trail as he visited JUCO corner Michael Harris earlier this week. NoleDigest spoke to Harris about the visit and to see if he is firm in his decision.

New defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has settled into his role as defensive coordinator for Florida State. He is now out recruiting for the Seminoles, and one of his first stops was to see JUCO cornerback Michael Harris. Harris is home from El Camino CC taking online classes to finish up his Associates Degree.

Harris told NoleDigest that his first face to face conversation with Stoops went very well.

"The visit with Coach Stoops went great," said the corner. "This was my first time meeting him even though he recruited me while he was at Arizona. We talked about the future of the defense and how FSU is bringing in some young and talented guys, but how they need a guy like me to come in who has some experience and is ready to go."

Harris said that they did not talk specifics with the defense. He did say they are depending on him to come in and be ready to compete once he steps on campus in June.

"I am excited for this opportunity," Harris said, "because while we didn't talk specifics about how they want to use me they definitely want me to come in ready to compete for a starting position. They are looking for a top cover man like Patrick Robinson was. They look at me as a guy who gives them more versatility in the secondary."

Getting Harris in the fold was a huge get for FSU because he is a prospect that will contribute once he gets to FSU. One of the lingering questions with him has been whether he's going to qualify. He said things are going well and that he should be finishing up his AA in February.

"My classes are going great so far," said Harris about his academic standing. "These classes are over next month and then I will be done."

"I have a trainer I've been working with since I have been down here so I am in good shape," said Harris. "I will be ready to go when I get there this summer."

The visit was great for Harris because he got to continue building his relationship with Stoops. He told NoleDigest that he is done with his recruitment and that he is set to sign with the ‘Noles on Signing Day.

"I'm very firm to FSU," explained Harris. "That is the program I will be signing with."

Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Harris and the rest of the recruits from the 2010 recruiting class.
