Kitchens Enjoys FSU Visit

Darrin Kitchens is the latest recruit to pop onto FSU's radar. The Seminoles have shown the Homestead linebacker interest here and there throughout his recruitment but recently that interest has picked up. This past week the outside linebacker took an official to FSU. He spoke to NoleDigest about the visit, and we see if the ‘Noles were able to climb up his list of schools he is interested in.

For the most part Florida State's 2010 recruiting cycle has come down to a list of targets the coaches have been pursuing for sometime. It is typical this time of year, though, that we see new names pop onto the radar as senior years have come to an end.

One of those targets is Darrin Kitchens from Homestead, FL. The 6'3" 205 pound outside linebacker lead Dade County in sacks with 19, a feat that is sure to garner a lot of attention. He also had 75 tackles as he showed great explosion and ability.

Several schools have started showing him interest and Florida State is one of them. This weekend he took an official to FSU, which was his first time getting to see the school in person. From all accounts Kitchens says the visit went great.

"This was my first time at FSU, and the visit went great," said the standout linebacker. "I was initially supposed to visit Michigan but they cancelled on me. FSU has been recruiting me here and there but Coach Gran has got them more interested in me. I decided to take a visit to see what they were all about."

Kitchens was hosted by offensive lineman Henry Orelus. He told NoleDigest that the two had a good time together.

"Henry was my host and he was good," explained Kitchens. "We just talked about FSU and what it is going to be like in the future. He was telling me what it is like to be a Seminole."

This was Kitchens' first time visiting FSU and getting a chance to meet all of the coaches on staff. Out of everything he saw this weekend he said the attitude of the staff was what he liked about FSU.

"I liked the attitude the coaches have coming off of the season they had," said Kitchens of the highlight of the visit. "I talked to just about all of the coaches and they said that they need me very badly. They talked to me about the difference of needing and wanting me. I liked the coaches and I think things are changing for the better there."

The fact that FSU needs linebackers in this class helps their cause but Darrin isn't ready to name a leader yet in his recruitment. Heading into the visit Kitchens said Florida and Syracuse were his top 2, but now he says the schools he is looking at are even.

"The fact that FSU needs linebackers helps them and they have a good chance," Kitchens said, "but I don't have a leader. I'd say FSU, Florida and Syracuse are all even. USF is still there a bit, too."

Look for Kitchens to make his decision on Signing Day. Until then stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Darrin, as well as the rest of the recruits from the 2010 recruiting class.
