Florida State's first Junior Day will commence Saturday when nearly 50 of the top targets for FSU from the 2011 and 2012 class will be in town visiting the campus. While other programs have nearly a hundred recruits for these events the coaches at FSU are looking to spread the Junior Day events out in order to show the recruits more personal attention.
This Junior Day visit has a southern feel to it as the majority of the recruits that'll be in town are from Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Also, FSU will be hosting the 4 commitments they have so far for this class in Trey Pettis, Lamarcus Brutus, Keelin Smith and Eric Beverly.
The state of Florida will be especially represented as several of the top defensive line targets will be in town. With the need for defensive linemen in this class FSU is looking to leave a lasting impression on a deep group of talented players.
One of the newest offers that have gone out was to Columbus standout Anthony Rabasa. He's looking forward to seeing the facilities and spending time with the coaches. First Coast star Derrick Mitchell is very familiar with FSU as he has attended numerous games over the past few years. He too is looking forward to spending more time with the new coaching staff. Tampa-Leto standout Anthony Chickillo is the best recruit to come out of that program since current Seminole Demonte McAllister and he has seen his recruitment really pick up steam recently. Guys like Giorgio Newberry from Ft. Pierce Central and Nova's Niles Lawrence-Stample are guys from small towns that FSU has a ton of interest in.
Another position of focus for the coaches in this recruiting cycle is along the offensive line. There will be several of Coach Trickett's top targets in town for this weekend. Orlando-Boone tackle Max Lang is starting to lean towards FSU and is eager to spend some one-on-one time with Coach Trickett and Coach Fisher. Bobby Hart from St. Thomas Aquinas is arguably the top lineman in the state this year, and he's been looking forward to this visit for some time now. Errin Joe from Lake Gibson just received an offer from FSU, and other Florida standouts like Mike Romano and Nathan Theus will be attending.
There are a few out of state linemen on both sides of the ball FSU has put a lot of focus on.
One of the top defensive linemen in the south this year is Carver's Gabe Wright. Another Peach State standout Xzavier Dickson will be making a visit. Alabama offensive linemen Thomas Williams and Reese Dismukes are two guys Rick Trickett likes this early in the process.
The talent from skill positions that are attending this weekend is as impressive a list anyone can find. The headliner this weekend is Carver stud running back Isaiah Crowell. The 5-star back is the elite talent Jimbo Fisher is searching for for his offense. Another is current Florida commitment Pop Saunders from Deland, FL. While Saunders remains firmly committed to the Gators the coaches have a chance this weekend to show the talented athlete what they have to offer.
FSU signed one of the best wide receiver classes in 2010, but the coaches are recruiting some of Florida's best this year. Some of those players will be at the Junior Day this weekend. Andre Davis from Tampa-Jefferson was special last year at FSU's Seminole Showtime and he is one of 2011's best in the state this year. The St. Thomas Aquinas duo of Phillip Dorsett and Rashad Greene are also expected.
On the defensive side of the ball Wayne Lyons, Nick Waisome and Tony Steward are special talents looking hard at FSU. Longtime lean Karlos Williams, Plantation's Jeremy Cash and Coral Gables linebacker Denzel Perryman are some of Florida's best at their position.
Shaq Beverly and John Theus are 2012 recruits expected to be in town Saturday.
The talent that's going to be in town is impressive. With guys like Max Lang and Jeremy Cash looking to make early decisions, this weekend will be important for the coaches to give a great impression.
