Pittsburgh QB is high on the Noles
Pittsburgh (PA) Penn Hills quarterback Anthony Morelli has been compared to another former Pittsburgh high school football standout Dan Marino. Like the former Parade All-American out of Central Catholic High School, he will also be highly sought out nationally.
"A lot of people compare me to Dan Marino," the 6-foot-4 and 208 quarterback said. "I have a strong arm and a quick release but I'm more mobile."
So far Morelli has an impressive list of early offers, including Pittsburgh, Penn State, Purdue, West Virginia, Indiana and Iowa. Over the next few months, the list of scholarship offers is expected to grow.
Morelli, who passed for nearly 1,900 yards and 20 touchdowns in a run-orientated offense, has an early list of six favorite schools.
"I like Florida State, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Ohio State and Miami," he said. "Florida State kinds of stands out because it was one of my favorite teams growing up. Our team has the same high school uniforms as the Seminoles do. Andy Urbanic (Associate Director of Athletics for Football Operations at Florida State), use to be the head football coach at Penn Hills. I do know him but the coaches still keep in contact with him."
Even though he list Florida State as the team that stands out the most early, the Penn Hills senior to be doesn't claim to have a leader.
He also likes hometown Pittsburgh Panthers and the Miami Hurricanes a lot.
"Pittsburgh was the first school to offer me," he said. "They have the best quarterback coach in the country. I plan on attending their summer football camp along with the Nike camp at Penn State this spring. I like Miami's location and the warm climate. It seems like it would be a nice place to play."
Morelli, who is no rush to make a decision, will take most of his official visits after his football season is over.
