DeBell Talks FSU Visit

Zach DeBell is a big, athletic lineman from Tarpon Springs, FL. This past weekend the talented offensive tackle made the trip up to Tallahassee for a visit to check out FSU and watch spring practice. NoleDigest spoke to DeBell about the visit and to talk about his recruitment.

When you're 6'7" 260 pounds and you can run the 40 in 4.9 seconds colleges from all over the country will recruit you. That is the case with Tarpon Springs' lineman Zach DeBell. Zach has a great combination of size and speed, and he does something not seen with guys his size: he runs the 100 meters in track.

"Yeah I run the 100 and I don't finish last," joked DeBell. "It's not common that a guy my size runs that. I run it in 12.4 which isn't bad for a guy my size. I have great feet and can move well. I run a 4.9, and my shuttle time is 4.5 seconds."

"I do have 5 offers right now," said DeBell about how his recruitment is going. "My recruitment is going pretty well. The offers are from Minnesota, UCF, FIU, Iowa State and South Carolina. The schools talking to me right now are Florida State, Miami, USF, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Missouri, Boston College, Michigan, Ohio State, Duke, N.C. State and a few others."

This past weekend DeBell was in town to check out FSU and watch spring practice. Recently Zach was invited by FSU offensive line coach Rick Trickett to come for a visit and check the Seminoles out.

"Coach Trickett called up my coach and told him he wanted to invite me up for a visit up there," DeBell said, "so my coach called me and told me I needed to call Coach Trickett. He told me he wanted me to come up for a visit to see the school and practice."

Zach said the visit went pretty well and that he is impressed with what he saw from the coaching staff.

"The visit was fun and I liked the pace of the practice," explained DeBell. "Everything was now, now, now and it was intense. I mainly watched Coach Trickett and I watched how Coach Fisher moved around. I feel like Coach Trickett is a good guy and I like his little sayings. He actually remembered me from camp last year and so did one of his GA's. He is a tough coach but he can get the best out of you."

After practice DeBell got the chance to spend about 15 minutes with new head coach Jimbo Fisher. Zach told NoleDigest the conversation went well.

"After practice I got a good 15 minutes to talk to Coach Fisher," said DeBell. "He was telling me how they liked my game film and how I have fast hands and how I place them. He was telling me they are going to recruit me heavily as a left tackle."

"Overall I like the architecture there and how it's all brick," continued DeBell. "It's different than here in the Tampa area where it's all flat. I liked the environment there as well. I am just trying to learn more about the program and if they are interested. They are one of those top-notch schools that can get me to the next level."

Zach is open to the process right now and says he will be looking for the place he is most comfortable at and a place that can make him a better player.

"I am open for anything and to everyone," explained DeBell. "I am looking for a coaching staff that I get along with, a school with a good communications or sports management program, and coaches that can get me to the next level."

It is a matter of when, not if, FSU offers. When they do expect the Seminoles to climb up the Tampa area standout's list.
