Newberry Visiting this Weekend

Giorgio Newberry is quietly becoming one of the most heavily recruited players in Florida for 2011. With nearly 30 offers the Fort Pierce Central standout has offers from schools all over the country. NoleDigest caught up with Newberry to talk about his recruitment.

Ft. Pierce standout defensive end/offensive tackle Giorgio Newberry has seen his recruitment take off over the past month as he has amassed close to 30 offers. Almost daily new offers are coming through and it is a process Newberry finds interesting.

"I really like it and I think it is interesting as it goes on," Newberry said of his recruitment. "I am still humble with all of this and I am trying to stay humble despite all of the attention."

"I am close to 30 offers now," continued Newberry. "The latest offer I got was from Michigan. I got pretty excited about that offer. They are rebuilding still but it is a good program. Overall I kind of expected to be recruited and I had a feeling it would go well, but I didn't think it would be this fast and exciting."

Florida State is a school Newberry has a lot of interest in. He plans on heading up to FSU this Friday to check out a practice. He told NoleDigest he is excited about the visit.

"I have a lot of interest in FSU and I am taking a visit up there Friday," Newberry said of the Seminoles. "I am excited to take the visit and I am excited to get the chance to talk to Coach Fisher. I spoke to him this week and he told me they are excited to get me up there. I also want to get a chance to meet the other coaches and watch a spring practice."

Some schools are recruiting Newberry as a defensive end while others project him as an athletic offensive tackle. The Seminole coaches like him as a big defensive end, and they feel he can bring some much needed size to the position.

"They like my size and athleticism as a defensive end," said Newberry. "They feel I can bring some size to their team. Coach Fisher is a real cool guy and he has been recruiting me, and so has Coach Stoops. I have a good relationship with both. With my size I could go in there and play pretty early."

With schools like Alabama, USC, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Cal showing interest don't look for any decision from Giorgio anytime soon.

"I want to stay open to all of the schools and check some out that haven't offered yet," said Newberry. "It's still early. I probably won't narrow down my list until after my senior season."
